It is used across the whole organization, it is our central storage box. We have a replication towards our dr site and use VMware site recovery as part of its integration. We managed to merge 2 storage boxes located in two racks into one box as big as six racks.
  • Ease of management.
  • Pure support.
  • High performance.
  • We miss native NAS service.
The storage FlashArray is suited when you are using a SAN environment. It is recommended when you need high-performance service. It could be great on your migration road to the cloud since Pure has an appliance that works on Amazon Web Services. It is less useful when you need NAS services

Storage for ESXi environment and storage for VDi, used across the whole organization, solved speed issues with storage migrations and VDi issues.
  • It's fast, very very fast.
  • Dual controllers built-in so nothing goes down when we lose a controller.
  • Data dedupe, so we are not growing and will have plenty of space.
  • Better active design.
  • The cost of the product is a little high but it is well worth it.
  • They do not have a NAS front end.
Backend storage for VDi, esx, Hyper-V.

Primary storage for corporate storage needs like virtual machines, collaboration, and ERP. It replaced two HP EVA 6400s with that were not able to keep up with I/O needs, while frequent failing components and the EOL made it a risk to keep them as primary storage. We use the built-in snapshot feature to snapshot 90% of all volumes every 30 minutes and keep them 6 days on the array. This will help us recover in case of ransomware. We have a second PURE X20 in our remote site 300 KM from here and use async replication to sync critical data off-site.
  • Easy to manage. When compared to HP EVA the GUI and the available options are logical and easy to understand. Our administrator needed very little to none training to use it.
  • Low Latency and high throughput. Normal business operation is around 20K IOPS and < 1 MS.
  • Support. Knowledge engineers that will ' stay with you' till the issue is resolved and provide assistance even when the root cause is a, for example, a faulty transceiver in an FC Switch or an MPIO issue on AIX.
  • Pure1 portal provides enough information for basic capacity planning and the new VM Topology is helpfull to quickly get information about which VM Vdisk is having latency issues.
  • Excellent integration with VEEAM. For example, using the VEEAM console we can restore a file from any of about 130 snapshots that we take on the SAN.
  • The portal provides some basic information on the deduplication and compression ratios but is not very helpful when troubleshooting a sudden increase in utilization.
An excellent solution to consolidate all your corporate storage but don't waste its capacity with multimedia files as this dedupe and compress poorly. Excellent solution if you want to simplify SAN management.

Our Pure Storage Flash Array is our main data store. Spinning Disk was just too slow for the ERP application we use.
  • Fast
  • Works extremely well in a virtualized environment.
  • The snapshot capabilities allow for easy creation of a test environment that takes very little extra space.
  • The support is awesome.
  • The ability to update the controller to the latest firmware with no downtime.
  • I have not run across a con to using Pure.
It is fast. It has good data compression. We have surpassed our goal of 99.999% uptime.

Cars Inc. uses Pure FlashArray (PF) as it's block storage solution.

Cars Inc wanted a partner that approached storage from a different perspective, giving its customers a flexible and affordable storage platform (Evergreen). Cars Inc's engineering team needed a solution that was easy to manage, performant, and and a small form factor.
  • Management/Admin software - Unlike legacy storage platforms, PF's administration is simple and flexible. We no longer require an SME, all engineers can manage the arrays with a high degree of confidence.
  • Excellent support organization - Pure requires very little engagement from the customer for issues. Simple email communications will address %100 of our issues.
  • Evergreen program - Allows it's customers to upgrade to a new storage head assuring they can take advantage of Pure's technology road map.
  • Cars Inc has always been interested in a file storage solution. However, the Flash Blade has lacked built-in replication.
PF is a great solution for organizations that are either firmly planted in the data center, in a hybrid mode moving some or all of its workload to a public cloud. Their support organization is exceptional as is their account management team. By far the easiest partner to work with.

2 Pure Storage FlashArray is distributed in 2 different datacenters (an active-active cluster) are being used as main storage (VM datastores) for the virtualization environment based on Vmware 6.5 (4+4 nodes stretch cluster). In few months it will also serve as storage of HIS main database (Intesystems Cache). This solution gives us a full solution for our structured data needs:
  • - High-speed storage
  • - High availability
  • - Compression and deduplication
  • - Easy administration
  • Performance
  • Easy administration
  • Compression and deduplication
  • Vvol (VMware) support in mirrored (pods) volumes.
  • Add additional options to snapshots (maybe a webhook on finish).
Pure Storage FlashArray is well suited for any application with high performance requirements: virtualization, vdis (vdi boot storms and deduplication), databases (latency and iops) and building CI chains with its easy api for taking snapshots and creating clones

We are using the FlashArray for handling our virtualization and SQL database workloads across our whole organization. We have about 400 virtual machines and 4 SQL database clusters. It allows us to not have to worry about performance or constant management. It has reduced our day to day management of storage down to virtually nothing.
  • Performs quickly
  • Easy to manage
  • Provides useful reporting
  • OS updates can be slow to resolve problems
  • Not all storage protocols are provided
  • Replication options could be greater
The FlashArray has been great for our rollout in virtualization and database. The dedupe and compression engines are second to none.

We manage the Pure Storage arrays for our customer, Graphic Packaging. We have remote sites where we need a reliable infrastructure. We replaced the EqualLogic by Pure Arrays and, due to the success, we use it as part of migration into our primary site for a new acquisition.
  • Support: the support is excellent. You can call or open a case using the web, and you always have someone willing to help, even if it's just a question or a complicated issue. Even with issues with other vendors, you can feel there is someone interested in helping you to solve the problem.
  • Easy to use: The GUI is really intuitive and easy to use. There are a lot of videos and documents to guide you through.
  • Performance: We have more than a year of managing these arrays, and we don't have any issues with performance.
  • Some of the options at the GUI need some warnings. Even if you are supposed to know what are you doing, some warning or questions, such as "are you sure you want to do this," are always welcome.
  • I would like to have a training class. It's good to have all the online training, but if you are taking the course on your laptop, there is always someone needing something, I'd rather have personal training where you can disconnect, provide your full attention, and receive feedback to your question at the moment.
I think maybe the mainframe is not an appropriate environment for Pure Storage, or when you need synchronous replication. Besides that, I cannot think of another scenario where Flash Array cannot be suited.

The organization had a need to replace an EOL, 250TB, production, spinning disk array, which was central to the entire datacenter. This replacement array would need to provide increased throughput and decreased latency for both physical and virtual workloads. The Pure solution easily outperformed the old array and our exceptions.
  • The Pure Storage solution handles upgrades very well. We have both updates and upgrades in place with no outage or impact to our systems. This included hardware and software events.
  • The management is very simple and straightforward. There are so complex options or need for Pure SMEs every time a storage change is needed.
  • VMWare integration is simple and effective. You can use one screen to manage your complete environment.
  • Initial expense. Although the solution with the recommended support had higher upfront costs, the ROI has been excellent.
  • Limited NAS support, although there are options to enable support for file protocols.
I would suggest that the Pure solution would fit many applications. It is easy to manage, acquire, and is cost-effective to maintain. Although in our case it did not meet the bonus criteria of being as fast as local Fusion storage, it handily outperforms all of our other past solutions. I might suggest that it may be overkill for smaller use cases where the scalability is not needed.

We have model X50. This production is running to all production side now. Connection type ISCSI but we want to go NVME in this year. We want more performance in write/read than ISCSI.
  • More IOPS.
  • More read/write.
  • Less latency With NVME cards.
  • Integrated with Cloud but with cheap disks
I suggest this for network access-type NVME.

It is used as the central storage of our company. It is also the base of our internal private cloud where all VMs are stored. It solves our problems in several areas: 1. All upgrade and maintenance needs with no downtime 2. The upgrade path is very easy 3. Performance is outstanding and 4. Price is competitive.
  • Performance is excellent.
  • No downtime for upgrades or maintenance.
  • Simple licensing and competitive pricing.
  • User management is still not role-based.
  • The Support team may need to improve in the area of communication.
During the POC period, the product already showed its outstanding performance against the other brands. After the product delivered, the setup time was lightning fast (around 3 hours) and we were good to go! The management of the device is easy, though, there is room to improve. The performance and reduction ratio is up to what it is advertised so that we can make an accurate estimation of the usage.

It is used across the whole organization. It has lowered latency across all environments and the TCO has been amazing.
  • Dedupe and compression, especially for VDI.
  • Speed.
  • Forever flash and TCO.
  • The underlying code is upgraded quite a bit. That means more upgrades than other arrays. It is really both a pro and a con.
It is perfect for VDI, SQL and any application that requires high I/O with low latency. It is not well suited for tier 2 or 3 applications like file servers or archived data.

It's being used across the whole organization as part of our self-managed data center to host our VM environment.
  • It hosts our virtual machines with great performance.
  • It's used for RDMs to attach to clustered VMs.
  • It's easy to manage and configure volumes, and connect to VM hosts and host groups.
  • De-dupe works very well and results in great space savings.
  • The ability to present CIFS/SMB storage is lacking, but I believe this is being addressed very soon.
It only requires a small footprint in your data center, and its performance is great. I think it would suit companies of any size, as the product is very scalable.

The Pure FlashArray with VVOLs has reduced our management of storage to near zero. We are able to just set it and forget it to focus on more productive tasks that help the business serve our customers better. I've used almost every storage product on the market and any perceived premium for Pure is erased with the increased productivity. Not only is it easy to use, but all our applications also run faster.
  • Very simple to use
  • Very fast
  • Excellent Support
  • Ability to upgrade
  • All inclusive support
  • Space reduction
  • Price
  • All upgrades go through support
The FlashArray will always excel at any workload that needs ultra-low latency. Database operations are extremely fast. Cloning operations of all types are extremely easy, space-efficient and fast. With VVOLs it reduces the complexity and management to compete with hyper-converged systems to the point where our use case does not benefit. Arguably it is worse under a hyper-converged architecture.

We use FlashArray to support several internal product engineering groups. This support a variety of operations such as MySQL databases, hyper-v, and VMware virtual environments. We primarily use it for the higher IOPs requirement work loads. We have also developed an in house Prometheus exporter utilizing the API. We are looking to switch to the vendor provided exporter.
  • Ease of use - The general layout and order of operations is very logical, unlike a Hitachi array.
  • The functionality of the API and CLI is very intuitive and easy to learn.
  • Utilizing support for upgrades and repair.
  • The initial configuration of the flash array is a real pain point. The need for physical presence to configure things is burdensome and slow. We would prefer to connect a serial connection and configure remotely, like an Isilon cluster.
The reduced toil and ease of operations makes it worth the additional cost of purchase. The technical capabilities ready add to the experience, though we have not really pushed these to the max yet. The data deduplication gives you more storage than you expect so that needs to factor into the cost per TB.

We are using the FlashArray as our Enterprise block storage. We have our entire Virtual Environment running on it. The FlashArray is providing the growth capacity the performance we were looking for.
  • The FlashArray is easy to setup and maintain once it is up and running.
  • The data reduction helps increase the usable capacity of the array.
  • The speed of the array helps our application users get more from their applications.
  • The type of maintenance Pure has to cover the arrays is great.
  • The overall data reduction is dependent on the type of data you have. So, make sure your account team knows your type of data before they size the array.
  • Make sure you test the stated vendor integration with the PureArray in your environment to make sure it works as expected.
In our environment the PureArray is working great. Our application speed has increased once we migrated to the PureArray. We are currently migrating our Oracle databases to the PureArray. So far our data reduction is less that what is should be.
