  • Identifies key social conversations around a brand across social media, blogs and traditional news sites
  • Helps to calculate estimated impressions for Twitter campaigns
  • Shows buzz around keywords for up to 2 years (only 1 year for Twitter)
  • Less information is available for Facebook (only up to 6 weeks) though this is due in part to Facebook's restrictions
  • Would like historical data for longer periods of time
  • The ability to access impressions on Twitter allows us to quantify earned media more effectively than with other agency tools.
  • Overall buzz and impression numbers help to quantify earned media overall.
Radian 6 and Meltwater Buzz were also on the shortlist. Radian 6 was not chosen based on their per-result pricing model (at the time of our evaluation, this model has since changed) as well as the focus on widget data display. Meltwater Buzz was the economical candidate coming in with the most functionality at its lower price-point. We felt their focus had shifted from listening to more of an engagement tool. While the listening portion still appeared to have great capabilities, we were more impressed with Sysomos.

We have been extremely satisfied. Cost and Facebook integration may cause a product switch, but we have been overall very happy with Sysomos and will likely renew.
We switched agency social listening solutions from Oracle Collective Intellect to Sysomos MAP.
  • Don't know
No implementation necessary, technology is self service vs. needing to be added to a website or harddrive etc.

Our support team is great at quickly getting back to us and has been very helpful in assisting with multiple on-boardings as new segments of the agency begin using the tool.
No
We use support very infrequently. The platform is very self serve. We have had limited support from our account team (who are fantastic!).
The product is very easy to use. The platform is visual and data is easy to read. Boolean construction can sometimes be difficult, but the boolean constructor tool is helpful for boolean beginners. For more experienced boolean constructors, the boolean display at the top is very helpful in identifying where there may be holes in the construction.
The system is typically pretty fast and easily accesible. Due to contract restrictions, our team sometimes has issues with overlap in usage (we only have one login to share amongst the team).
We did not necessarily negotiate specialized terms but had in the past been able to communicate our budget and work towards a solution to fit within it. These were not the final terms agreed upon (as our budget changed), but Sysomos was very willing to discuss possible options to work around budget constraints. My best advice is to communicate any shortcomings that may prevent the contract and see how much they are willing to work together to get around them. The team is very good at working with agencies and clients across the spectrum of industries.

  • Using Boolean syntax, we are able to tap into what conversations are happening around the search set. Searches are keywords-based, but the Boolean capabilities allow us to filter the data set to drill down to precisely what we want.
  • Although Boolean logic is a powerful way to filter large data sets, the syntax can be tricky to learn.
  • For full-on sentiment analysis capability, Sysomos Heartbeat might be a better choice. In Hearbeat you can see what people are saying specifically. You can also alter sentiment (e.g. from negative to neutral). In MAP you cannot manipulate the data in this way.

  • We are able to harvest competitive insights on behalf of our clients.
Radian6, Collective Intellect, and others.

Sysomos allowed for more robust reporting.

  • Reporting for social media reports, consumer insights, competitive reporting.
  • The principal use case is collection of data for our clients competitors to help with campaign messaging and design.
The only real issue is the inherent difficulty of training our various departments on how to use Boolean logic. There are alternative methods of filtering data sets.
Oracle Collective Intellect.

Somewhat better to dive in and play with the system yourself. Geeting in to the tool was better than the training classes. This might be a reflection of the way I prefer to learn things.
The team is very helpful! We can either call or email and they are very responsive and helpful.
No
Our contract provides us with up to five support hours / month and, to date, we have not needed this much.
Not really an availability issue, but concurrency licensing rules mean that only one user can be logged in at a time.
If searching over longer time frame, it can take a while to return results. SOmetimes as long as two to three minutes.
