Overall Satisfaction with MIP Fund Accounting (formerly Abila MIP)

We use MIP in conjunction with a donor management system. At the end of each month, we enter the total pledges, payments, etc., into MIP to come up with the current financial picture. We also use MIP for writing checks, budgeting, and reconciling the bank account on a monthly basis.
  • I find the transaction reports very easy and handy when wanting to look up specific G/L accounts activity
  • The budget vs. actual reports are important and we use them to create a monthly dashboard
  • The reconcile cash accounts usually makes the bank reconciliation simple
  • I would like MIP to have been able to interact with MIP's FR100 system.
  • The checkwriting process could possibly be simplified to fewer steps
  • The budget entry system is quite complicated
  • MIP Fund Accounting preceded my time here, but I don't think it was extremely expensive and now it only costs about $600 a year for support.
  • It continues to meet our needs, so little, if any additional investment is necessary.
Yes, we are able to set up multiple funds by adding GL accounts and/or new categories to suit our needs.
Again, MIP Fund accounting was already in place when I arrived 7 years ago. I had only experienced QuickBooks and some other industry specified accounting systems prior to working at a non-profit.
I think it is very well suited to small to medium sized non-profit organizations. Larger organizations would probably need a more advanced system.
