Overall Satisfaction with Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT

We use Blackbaud Financial Management NXT for Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, Cash Receipts and General Ledger. We have an integration with Financial Edge and Raisers Edge. With this implementation, the Business Office no longer needs to manually enter gifts/donations/pledges into the General Ledger via journal entries.
  • RE/FE Integration
  • Project ID's associated with G/L account numbers
  • Refresh bank feeds
  • Customer service needs improvement. Support tends to not be very helpful.
  • The FE/RE integration has streamlined the reconciliation of donations and pledges between the Business Office and Advancement Office.
The Business Office has created several reports in Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT that are utilized on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. For example, a Project ID report that is specific to one project. A report has also been created to pull the detailed activity for all pledge receivable accounts that are set up in the General Ledger.
In Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT, I run a detailed operating statement and a detailed balance sheet on a monthly basis. With the operating statement, I compare to the actual budget. With the balance sheet, I compare the current balances to prior year balances and research any outliers. This is how I catch errors.
  • Senior Systems and from Community Brands
I did not personally select Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT. The system was already implemented when I began working for Pomfret School as the Controller. I prefer Senior Systems because this software also had a "debit card" feature for students available in the Accounts Receivable system. At Pomfret School, we have to use an entirely different system for student debit cards outside of Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT.

Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT is a good solution for independent schools. It is a good tool for tracking CIP projects as well as Restricted gifts due to the Project ID's that you can link to certain General Ledger account numbers. The Excel add-in for journal entries and budget upload has saved the Business Office a lot of processing time.
