Overall Satisfaction with Kofax Power PDF (formerly Nuance)
We adopted PowerPDF for PDF document management when it was still a Nuance product. Besides general PDF viewing, we use it for combining and OCR'ing moderately large files (up to 1000-4000 pages, up to a few hundred megabytes in size) and for things like multi-term search and markup.
- Good OCR quality.
- Search and mark tools are really good.
- Generates widely compatible files.
- Installer prevents 64-bit installation because of the windows version.
- Needs to support multi-core / multi-thread optimization for modern processors.
- Needs GPU acceleration.
- Increase efficiency of PDF-heavy tasks.
- Manages large files.
- Increased focus on primary work tasks.
In general it's straightforward, but the user interface is on the old-fashioned side, and it could use modernization, and features could be easier to find. Usually we just find features using the tool search bar.
The weaknesses are basically the same. The search and mark tools are better in Kofax.
