Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds IP Address Manager (IPAM)

Plan is/was to use it across the organisation globally and it should allow us to move away from traditional and, based on the experience to date with IPAM, more reliable spreadsheets. It will be setup by the network team, but made widely available to other departments including virtualisation, servers and our Global Support Centre.
  • The GUI is to the usual Solarwinds standard
  • Licensing
  • Lack of Operational Intuition
  • Lack of effective and efficient support
  • Based on the current version and support this was money wasted.
It was not selected so much as chosen because of association. This was based on the latest experience and a mistake. A full evaluation process should have been made of other IPAM products, but the option to integrate with Orion was obviously too much of a temptation.
Based on our experience of support requested for the installation and licensing problems we still have, giving it a 1 is being generous. Slow response time, no in-region support, no attempt to call and a refusal to complete a Zoom/screen share to see the problems first hand. This has left someone who was previously an advocate of SolarWinds to actively look at other options.

Would you buy SolarWinds IP Address Manager (IPAM) again?

It used to be a good simple product to use, but based on the current experience it has taken a number of retrograde steps. The most important of which is the installation and licensing which should be simple, especially since licensing is web based. However far too many errors appear during the install process which are not catalogued or explained and their level of vendor support is/was at best vague.
