Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds IP Address Manager (IPAM)

We use it to inventory and identify devices on our network, especially non windows devices that don't normally show up in other applications.
  • I like its discovery process for identifying IP addresses.
  • The interface is fairly straightforward.
  • It isn't always clear how the software tracks devices over time. For example the difference between something that is gone vs. not currently online.
  • It has helped identify when devices have been removed from our network with no notice.
  • It helps tracks available IP addresses.
  • SNMP device type discovery is valuable as well.
OptiView gives a very good snapshot of devices currently on the network and gives more details and troubleshooting, but doesn't have a record over time. As a result the two devices have overlapping purposes but ultimately are used for different tasks. SolarWinds ends up feeling more like an inventory system.
I haven't worked directly with SolarWinds customer support.

We have a large network with loose central control, the feature I like the best is the discovery and cataloging of both listed devices and discovered devices.
