Overall Satisfaction with SQL Sentry Performance Advisor
Currently there are only two people that use SQL Sentry. My initial problem before using the product was that it was difficult to learn the ins and outs of how MSSQL works, therefore it was difficult to track down performance problems or know what was happening in our database. When I installed SQL Sentry I could track down problems with ease and I always had a look into the past to see what was happening on our system.
- Easy to set up and navigate for most features.
- Minimum performance hit on SQL server.
- Cheaper solution than hiring a full time DBA.
- Some features such as conditions are confusing to set up.
- Interface has had the same look since I've been using it. Maybe it's time for a new look.
- One click update in application to get the latest version instead of having to download the exe every time.
- SQL 2016
I have not looked at other products as of yet, but I am going to be reviewing SQL 2016 soon to see if it could be a replacement to SQL Sentry. SQL 2016 has a new Query Store function that saves the execution plans and history of previously executed queries. Currently, this is what I do the most of in SQL Sentry, but if SQL Sentry could improve upon its alerting setup process then I may still see SQL Sentry as worth keeping around.
