Likelihood to Recommend

Actian Vector (formerly VectorWise)

VectorWise is suitable to be a departmental data mart database or an operational data store (ODS). It is not suitable for enterprise data warehouse database.

SingleStore (formerly MemSQL)

SingleStore DB (formerly MemSQL) is good for a high-volume, real-time data feed, a high number of concurrent queries, and excellent for both OLAP and OLTP workloads. It's not good for unstructured data store.

I still want to see the performance about using latest version of spark and memsql. About renewal, if there is a new and better version of spark-memsql connector, then maybe.

The team is always available, responsive, and quite helpful. It is clear by their answers that the support reps are experts in SingleStore DB (formerly MemSQL). They can deliver proper answers and understand the client's environment. I never had an issue that took them long to figure out. They are also ready to walk us through upgrades and have meetings whenever required.

SingleStore (formerly MemSQL)

  • VoltDB is more transactional.
  • Redis just a k-v as is Voldemort.
  • Elasticsearch security is an issue. Plus more of reads than writes
  • Aerospike great K-V that is great with writes and reads. But expensive. More expensive than SingleStore DB (formerly MemSQL).
  • Firebird opensource, but scalability is an issue
  • SingleStore DB (formerly MemSQL) at least supports ANSI-SQL. Between SingleStore DB (formerly MemSQL) and VoltDB, I would choose VoltDB, based on pricing.

Return on Investment

Actian Vector (formerly VectorWise)

  • We had to move out of VectorWise after using the database for 2 years. Hence no positive impacts.

SingleStore (formerly MemSQL)

  • It offers me solution to solve spark storage problem.
  • It adds more complexity of my application since multiple tech softwares are involved.
  • More types of bugs will be encountered when doing streamliner, including hardware connection.
