Astera Centerprise is a versatile and affordable data integration tool that has proven to be highly valuable in various use cases. Users have found that the software is commonly used to generate files from a data warehouse in proprietary formats and send them to vendors. It is also utilized for automated report generation, inventory alerts, and scheduled email tasks. Additionally, Astera Centerprise is often employed for ETL processes, allowing for seamless movement and transformation of data between different sources based on specific business rules.

One of the key use cases of Astera Centerprise is syncing a legacy database to a more web-friendly database, which requires the creation of a custom database driver. Users have successfully leveraged the software for this purpose. Another significant use case is integrating Salesforce with various ERP systems, providing an intuitive user interface for exchanging data between these platforms. Furthermore, Astera Centerprise has been instrumental in providing visibility into issues with moving data from legacy systems to the application's database, reducing both time and technical skills required.

The software simplifies the process of building integrations and small tasks through its drag-and-drop GUI and wide range of data connections and functions. For instance, it is widely used for importing data into Microsoft Dynamics AX, Salesforce, and other in-house built applications, making it easier to map and integrate the data. Moreover, Astera Centerprise streamlines data integration processes by enabling analysts to connect to various data sources and perform complex transformations seamlessly.

The software finds application in diverse domains such as finance, healthcare, agriculture, and manufacturing. For example, it serves as a key component for consolidating financial data from different sources into a single view for corporate finance groups. It also plays a critical role in integrating electronic health record systems with other systems in the healthcare sector. Across organizations, Astera Centerprise is widely used for importing and exporting data from application databases efficiently, saving significant time. Additionally, the software is valued for its ability to manipulate and map data based on client requirements, enabling users to synchronize data between ecommerce solutions and ERP systems effectively.

Intuitive Interface: Multiple users have praised the intuitive interface of Centerprise, stating that it is easy to understand and navigate. They have mentioned that after becoming familiar with the interface, they were able to quickly start using the tool.

Self-Documenting Graphical Approach: Many reviewers appreciate Centerprise's self-documenting graphical approach for building data flows. This feature allows new team members to easily understand existing work, saving time and promoting collaboration.

Data Preview Capability: The ability to preview data on each object within Centerprise has been highly valued by users. Being able to immediately see transformation results at any point in a data flow has not only saved them time but also facilitated data reconciliation processes.

Confusing User Interface: Several users have found the user interface of the software to be confusing and difficult to follow, making tasks more challenging. They have expressed frustration with navigating through the different features and options, resulting in a steep learning curve.

Issues with Software Updates: Users have encountered various issues during software updates, including bugs and changes to existing functionality. Some reviewers mentioned that these updates were not seamless and caused disruptions in their workflows. They had to spend time troubleshooting and adapting to the changes, which was inconvenient for them.

Performance Issues with Large Datasets: Some users have experienced performance issues when working with large datasets. They reported slowdowns and delays while processing extensive amounts of data. However, they were able to find workarounds by optimizing their workflows or breaking down the datasets into smaller chunks for better performance.

We first tried Informatica and think it is suitable for our company. However, the per license price is way too expensive, as we need to support multiple users at the same time. When compared to Astera, we found Astera can do most of the stuff that Informatica does. That's why we picked Astera.

For us Astera Centerprise is a better tool as it helps in solving 2 problems. We use it as both an ETL tool as well as API integration tool. MuleSoft Anypoint Platform is used for API integration only. So we chose Astera Centerprise over MuleSoft. We're now using to EDI integration also.

GoldenGate is not really designed for "interactive reusasbility" situations. Centerprise is perfect for the concept of reusing previous work for new projects! Plus, the cost difference is so huge!

I have not had the chance to evaluate or trial any other products like Astera Centerprise. The decision to enter a license agreement with Astera Centerprise was made before my employment at my current employer.

The biggest difference is with Astera Centerprise I could just start using it. Almost every other tool required me to write SQL or in another language... and if I'm writing SQL already, why not just use SSIS or raw SQL? There wasn't a tremendous amount of time savings being seen with the other products in getting the work done and that was the primary reason to go with Astera Centerprise. I watched someone use it in a demo for 30 minutes and thought, "Ok, let me have it, I can use this right now."

From honing the web I made a long-list of about 25 products, leaving off the big (and expensive) 4 as well as clearly inferior products. Then, due to the nature of our organization, I excluded cloud-specific solutions. That got us to about 15. I read reviews and was persuaded to reduce the shortlist to eight, which somewhat unfairly I arbitrarily cut to six because eight was just too much to deep-dive. I took a deep dive including vendor product demo with all six. From that study, two emerged, and I recommended both to my management as excellent choices. My management preferred Centerprise because it is not Java-based, and we are not a Java organization.

Stacks up well against competitors and overall provided the best fit for our needs while also meetings all of our requirements. No tool was perfect in our evaluation or from past experience even, but Astera proved to be a great fit after going through various reviews, demos, proof of concepts, and so on.

  • TIBCO Cloud Integration (including BusinessWorks and Scribe) and Azure Logic Apps
Astera wins on simplicity of building and maintaining the data flows. I am afraid that the two above-mentioned tools (and especially LogicApps) actually have more power under the hood. However, as mentioned before - Astera is way simpler to understand and maintain. Astera can be easily mastered by anyone.

We looked at continuing to use SSIS as an alternative. Although we own SSIS as part of our SQL licensing, we found that it takes a much higher skill level to create solutions. It also does not have the ability to parse unstructured data the way that Centerprise Data Integrator can. We also looked at Datawatch Monarch as a possibility but found it over-all to be cost-prohibitive. We also looked at a cheaper alternative called SimX but did not have a strong confidence in the product as we evaluated it. We landed on Centerprise Data Integrator as it met all of our business requirements and we know we could leverage it for many uses across our enterprise.

I looked at a few other options. But honestly, do not remember their names. They were excluded quickly when they came up short on functionality.
Before this tool, we used VBscript, VB.net and Excel to parse reports. These methods were much more time consuming.

After the purchase of the new company, we were required to go with their software choices until after TSA. The ETL product they had in use was Informatica. I'm sure Informatica has some great benefits for huge companies, but I am having a hard time adjusting to their style. Centerprise has Dataflows (Informatica has Mappings). You can run a Dataflow all by itself (Informatica you cannot run a Mapping by itself therefore requiring a workflow to run which doubles up your objects and maintenance). With Centerprise you can preview your data in every object in the Dataflow saving development time (with Informatica you cannot). Centerprise has a very nice scheduler to use (An Informatica consultant suggested not using the scheduler in Informatica because it wasn't very good thus, requiring a 3rd party purchase | we are using JAMS). Centerprise is a stand-alone product (Informatica had to be put on an Unix Box--thus requiring unix knowledge). Centerprise can pass variables quick easily between Flows (Informatica has to read parameter files from a stored/LAN location). Both products have the exact same project set up for the Government file transmissions: Centerprise had a total of 112 objects (DataFlows and Workflows). Informatica has 651. The once nice thing about Informatica is that you can call unix jobs to run (not sure if this was available in Centerprise)

We looked at some similar data integration tools, but reading the fine print of one revealed its need to scan our network - which automatically removed itself from our consideration. We will never compromise our customer's data for any reason, especially that of a suspect third-party software provider. The others lost out to Centerprise because their combination of value and ability vs cost didn't make sense.
