What is Seismic Learning?

Seismic Learning (formerly Lessonly, acquired by Seismic in August 2021) is training software with an ecosystem of partners, strategy and services that are aligned under the mantra of Do Better Work.

The vendor has worked with over 800 companies to help them train their teams. The vendor says they've learned that the highest performing organizations build their training on the same six pillars:

  • Assess (Gather Needs & Inputs) Listen to people, data, and the market; identify successes and challenges; and accurately assess your sales team's training needs.
  • Plan (Prioritize for Impact) Identify the most essential objectives and outcomes, and intentionally set milestones for creation and delivery.
  • Build (Create Quickly & Collaboratively) Work with teammates at the front lines of the business to develop and iterate on bite-sized training/content.
  • Learn (Meet Learners Where They Are) Push training content to teammates-- anywhere, anytime-- so they can quickly solve problems in their moment of need.
  • Practice (Rehearse, Refine, Repeat) Reinforce skills and information with realistic practice scenarios and receive feedback to fuel improvement.
  • Perform (Doing Better Work) Empower the organization to continuously improve, deliver and quantify results.

Seismic Learning ultimately aims to help organizations to achieve faster onboarding, higher NPS score, more closed deals and a superior customer experience.

We use Lessonly among a few departments to train on case studies, consumer journey, internal tools, and our partner program. It helps bridge the knowledge gap we may have in these areas. I've also deployed Lessonly with another organization where we used it both internally and with our partner program as well. At that organization, we used it to give product updates and to educate our partners on the sales, implementation, and support of the product.
  • Easy to use and create lessons
  • Intuitive and sharp user interface
  • Collaboration capability within tool
  • Would like built in certification that would give user certificate upon completion
  • A little better integration with Salesforce
  • A little more robust reporting
I've felt that it has been well suited in every situation. The tool is great for taking down silos that may exist in an organization, because it allows a department to create content that can be viewed at any time. My preference is to be able to find the information myself before reaching out to the subject matter expert.

Lessonly is being used by our Client Services Team as a training and education platform. It allows us to send updates and keep all employees on top of policies and procedures.
  • Create user friendly training material
  • The possibility of automated Learning Paths
  • Reduces Ramp Time
  • Scheduling time for assignments are on American time and we are a global company, so it'd be nice for us to be able to work on local times.
  • The dashboards with information and statistics about who is assigned to which lesson and which user has still lessons open are available, yet they could be more advanced based on our personal preferences.
  • It'd be nice to have more customization or formatting variation for the texts.
Lessonly is a great way to get your team up to speed, whether they've been on the company for 1 day or 5 years. I really like the ability to add content and test the results of the user's ability to comprehend the content you laid out.

We use Lessonly primarily for Sales Enablement, though other departments have begun using it since implementation. We use it for two primary purposes.
  • Weekly lessons: We send out a lesson each week, as a way to keep our team up to date on the most important topics. We focus on product updates, competitive updates, updates from the Marketing Team, new messaging, and pitch practices which the managers grade. Each section has questions to verify that the reps understand the content.
  • Onboarding: We have a library of lessons that new reps take during the ramping process.
  • Lessons are quick and easy to create.
  • Simple user interface
  • Administration is easy
  • Syncs with Okta for user hierarchies
  • User video recording functionality could be easier to use
  • I would like the ability to record activities outside of Lessonly in the platform.
Lessonly is great for companies who need a lightweight, easy to use LMS.

Right now, Lessonly is being used by a lot of departments, but not the entire org. It's good for testing learning materials such as onboarding, product updates, and general updates about how to use our software.
  • Easy to use.
  • Good snapshot of numbers and data.
  • Getting it to users.
  • Copying a section and pasting it to another page.
  • More formatting freedom with text.
  • Ability to break pages with a clear page break or text box.
Well suited for quick knowledge checks. More tough for lengthy learning materials.

As the Director of Sales Development here at Thomas, I was charged with the task of fully replacing our classroom style sales training with a completely virtual education platform. We started out by building lessons to replace the day to day classroom work. It then evolved into our new Product Delivery platform and now we use it to do all of our onboarding for internal and external people. We also use the data and analytics from Lessonly around lesson completion percentage and average lesson review scores to help us determine where to allocate resources.
  • Makes it super easy to build and launch lesson content.
  • Provides simple analytics to understand learner involvement and participation.
  • Keeps my goals for the software on task as it relates to my department.
  • Provides the best quality support and keeps me aware of future product offerings and insights.
  • The Insights tab could be more comprehensive.
  • Offer gamification.
If you want a product where you can literally open the box and start creating lessons immediately...this is it. If you want a super elaborate product with useless bells and whistles...this is not that.

Lessonly is currently being used by our Customer Experience Department. It is used for our New Hire Training for self-instructed learning, as well as throughout the entire office for process updates, procedures and much more. The business problem that it addresses is being able to send out information to a mass group of people in a timely manner and being able to test if they retained this information. It has allowed us to continue training our team members outside of our 3 week training program and build them as Fit Stylists and Team Members.
  • Creates an easy to use system for both the Creators and the Learners.
  • Connects with their customers and listens to all feedback that is provided. You can tell that they work strongly off of what their customers are looking for with their tool and use that feedback to continue growing and bettering their system.
  • Creates a fun environment for both the customer and their employees. You can tell it's a great place to work.
  • When editing a reveal or flip card, the image and text are backwards. The text is on the top and the image is on the bottom when you are editing. But when you publish the lesson, they switch and the photo will be on the top and the text will be on the bottom.
  • Their customer service agents are incredibly friendly and helpful, it will just often be a while before someone is able to respond and assist you.
If you are a growing company and do not have the means to pull people from their duties to retrain on topics, send out procedure updates and want a great way to document who has what information and how they scored, Lessonly is a great option. It is incredibly user friendly for all users (Creators, Learners, Graders). They also are super helpful, and work to create a strong working relationship with their customers. You can tell that they are appreciative of any and all feedback that you give them, and that they are constantly working on bettering themselves and the company. This product has helped our Customer Experience office tremendously, I don't know where we would be without it today!

We are currently using Lessonly as our Primary LMS. We have only kicked it off on a trial basis for refresher customer service training but are in the trenches for content creation. Since content creation, at least initially, has primarily been me, it has been quite the process. We intend to use this as our onboarding LMS as well as a way to kick off policy changes and new material. We also intend to use it as a space to house our development/ career paths and a mentorship program. We intend to use it across the entire organization. As a training department of one with 9 physical locations across Indiana and Ohio, the main business problem it addresses is that it will hopefully eliminate travel time for me as well as provide a way to consistently train and track feedback.
  • Marketing and branding- Check out a Yellowship Conference. They have that whole thing nailed down to a science. And they think of everything. From branded Aspirin to water bottles to cookies. It was all so sharp looking and cohesive.
  • Appealing to a younger market - They are a young, hip company that draws young talent. Their customer service is amazing and their communication strategy really speaks to the younger workforce. They get it!
  • Clear consistent communication - They get to the point!
  • Easy to use - Their software is very intuitive and easy to use.
  • They host super fun events for prospective clients!
  • You can tell their leadership truly cares about their team and the work they are doing!
  • Add a spell check.
  • The ability to upload a document. I would really love to be able to track credentials that are outside of Lessonly, so if I could simply have a tech upload a certification, it would allow me to house everything in one place. Seems like a simple fix, but maybe not.
  • More fun events for current users outside of Yellowship.
  • Partner with TrueU or make it so that users of TrueU can easily house content in Lessonly.
Lessonly is great for quick, digestible learning topics like "how to take a lead", "how to navigate a website", and customer service training. Lessonly is great as a supplement to actual practice when it comes to tactical training. For example, we train project managers in construction. It is a great tool to use as a jumping-off point but then someone needs to go out and physically train them on how to do their job.

[Lessonly is a] Platform where we can design and develop training for the whole organization. We also have used it for each employee to make an "about me" section to get to know each other a little bit more.
  • I like that it has a multi media approach to learning, such as uploading videos, pictures etc.
  • There's comment sections you can use to get feedback from your employees.
  • It's simple to use, so employees who aren't especially technically advanced can use it with little, to no issues.
  • I'm one of those people who aren't super great using computers so I really like how they have it simplified. I personally don't see where they can improve it much.
It's well suited for new employees coming in and learning how everything works within the business or even older employees who need a refresher.

We use it in two formats: 1) to train agents on the phones for our company and 2) to train our independent contractors who work in the field.
  • Grades lessons and allows for retaking a a test
  • Allows feedback for each section so we can make them better
  • It's interactive which seems to be more valued by the learner
  • Presenting mode. I find that even presenters at Lessonly use PowerPoint to present, and I thought that was weird.
  • Alerts and reminders of unfinished lessons
  • Better reporting on stats as a whole
It allows each agent or learner to move along at their own pace.

It's being used by the entire organization for new hire on-boarding an ongoing training. It has helped us decrease our ramp-up time significantly by implementing hands-on training experiences.

I can't express enough how helpful the software is, how easy it is to build in, and how helpful everyone at the company has been.
  • makes learning interactive, hence increasing the retention
  • super easy to use and build in
  • always improving the software in innovative ways
  • excellent support from their team
  • Some of the metrics are hard to pull — it's difficult to get a full picture based on the reporting options
Lessonly is well-suited for any learning environment, regardless of whether it's for new hires or for ongoing trainings.

We use Lessonly as the main LMS for our entire company. Employees use Lessonly in a number of different ways, from onboarding to self-directed learning. The content that's necessary for understanding Qualia is usually new to everyone who walks through the door, so we provide multiple mediums for consuming and understanding the content. Lessonly is a great option for us because it allows for easy creation of lessons and content. The user interface is intuitive and pleasing on the eye; we're very happy with what we've been able to do with Lessonly thus far and it's provided us with a platform that can scale with our company's growth.
  • Content creation is very easy and quick
  • User interface is beautiful and user friendly
  • Management of users/content/insights is simple
  • We are looking for more options to assess; grading and insights are available, but we'd like more reporting on cohorts or tracking milestones
  • Some of the interface on the admin side of the application is a little cumbersome (viewing options, filtering, basic stuff)...this isn't a make it or break it drawback piece of functionality, but it's something that could be improved.
Lessonly is great as an internal resource for employees. You can use it for onboarding, continued education, compliance, company announcements or updates, and evaluation/assessment of knowledge retention and understanding.

We explored using it for our external LMS, but it's just not designed for that (or for our needs it's just not set up for that).

We originally started using Lessonly to help onboard new sales reps, but this year we expanded our usage of it to help us continually train our reps. This year we have also started using Lessonly throughout the entire company. Everyone now uses it for onboarding when hired at QGenda.
  • Their Customer Support is excellent. They send us quarterly updates and always offer their services and insight into lessons.
  • The CEO of Lessonly is very "visible" and sends out emails to his customers on what he views as better work and tips for bringing it to our own organization.
  • Lessonly's service helps us to onboard quicker with more repetition in what we train on.
  • Lessonly is a great tool for testing your reps' knowledge.
  • A peer review feature
  • Easier ways to copy a section of a lesson to another lesson.
Lessonly is extremely well suited for onboarding new hires into a company. It helps to stay organized and ensure you cover the same materials with every new hire. It also helps to relieve you for some of the review training since you can assign lessons right after you train and meet face-to-face.

MediCopy currently uses Lessonly across our entire organization. We use it as an information hub for employees to reference, as on on-boarding training tool, and for continuing education for all employees. We are currently in an explosive growth period as a company, and Lessonly has helped to formalize the on-boarding training process and make sure all employees have access to the most up-to-date information on policies and procedures. Lessonly has really helped to maintain our culture throughout this explosive growth period.
  • Lessonly allows users to personalize the theme to company logo and colors. This helps to keep consistency in all our systems.
  • Lessonly allows Admins to create content from scratch, so there are very few limitations on what can be created.
  • Lessonly's customer experience team is extremely helpful and makes sure to be available to answer any and all questions quickly.
  • Lessonly takes pride in user involvement, they have regular events in our area that allow us to network with other users and gain additional knowledge on the system.
  • There are some small limitations in the content creation process that can be addressed.
Lessonly is easily adapted to any organization or scenario. I do not see there being any situation where a company would not be able to benefit from partnering with Lessonly.

We brought on Lessonly almost 2 years ago because we did not have any training for our retail sales associates. We quickly saw value in the platform and since have built it out for our entire company and will continue to do so. It makes sure that everyone is on the same page and is following our processes accurately.
  • Great Support - Can get answers to questions or issues right away
  • Amazing Referral Program. I was blown away by how much they invest in people referring their product.
  • Great platform. It is extremely user friendly and aesthetically pleasing
  • I wish i had the ability to hide sections within Lessonly. Honestly that is really the only issue
Lessonly is great for documenting processes and how to use software. I see a fit for every single role within our company and other companies. With that said, some roles -- such as warehouse, field supervisors -- are less likely to benefit from it but mainly because those individuals are not as tech savvy then others. Everyone should know about proper customer service though.

  • Provide more and more courses for users.
  • Certification.
  • Reduce on courses that take a whole hour to finish, to avoid eating into staff time as they take the course.

We use it for all our onboarding and promotions. Our entire company has access to it. It helps "certify" that the information shared is retained.
  • Lots of bells & whistles. A ton of different ways to pull data.
  • Their Services team is AMAZING. They'll build lessons for you and help make sure you learners are best set up for success.
  • You don't just buy Lessonly, but you join their network. Their Llama Links connect you with other individuals in your area that also focus on enablement. They host events to share best practices and brainstorm ways to improving learning & deployment of lessons. YELLOWSHIP (their conference) is an AMAZING RESOURCE bringing all enablement folk from around the country to learn together...and of course do better work!
  • Their Support team is also unreal. Their in-app chat is amazing because it's real time with a real person who fixes all your issues.
  • none!
They're super responsive and have a general curiosity in your organization. They also aren't too "salesy". We actually upgraded our services package mid-year and it was no problem at all. I feel like more reps always try to oversell you. This certainly was not the case with Lessonly.

We use Lessonly to train our high volume sales teams. We use it when they join as a new hire and for continuous development as well. Right now, it's only for the 1 department and plan to span it over more in the future. Before Lessonly, our training documents were rarely updated and spread across multiple systems. This is a great way to have our training information in one user-friendly system.
  • User friendly. Little training needed to use the system
  • Helps with specific lessons and the workflow is engaging
  • The Lessonly content and articles are extremely helpful too
  • Nothing really. It's on us that we don't use it to its full potential. It's hard for sales people to balance cranking out phone calls and taking a moment to go through Lessonly modules
It's well suited when the teams hire at a high volume. Probably not as useful if the team doesn't hire often and/or if the role doesn't change on a regular basis. It's also great for teams that have high visibility since team members can see other people's progress. Our tech savvy employees enjoy it because it's very easy to use.

We use Lessonly here at Klaviyo to support the e-Learning needs for our Sales organization. As we grow we plan on having the entire company use Lessonly as our e-Learning platform and we hope to do that sometime in 2020. As we scale we have added remote and international locations including LA and London. So we were up against a challenge of how to onboard and train these users. Lessonly has been the answer to that problem.
  • Ease of use – You can create a lesson quickly and easily.
  • Track the progression of your learners – See how they're doing and where there are areas for improvement.
  • Customize a learning library by topics.
  • Top-notch customer service.
  • The way content is organized for admins could be a bit better.
  • I would like a bit more flexibility around creating folders for different topics.
Lessonly is well suited for organizations that have an existing plan in place for their learning models. Where Lessonly is not well suited at the beginning is when companies are just starting to build out their programs and are maybe not as well structured or ready to put their learnings online.

We had a huge onboarding issue and turned to Lessonly. We needed to streamline processes and best practices. I also needed to communicate with my growing team and know that they were digesting critical information. Lessonly helped disseminate information effectively and helped me better manage my team.
  • Distribute information
  • Easy to use lesson creation
  • Knowledge database
  • Expensive
  • Easier access to other teams content
Bigger teams are better to justify the cost. We were expanding to a remote team and it was a perfect solution as we didn't have the frequent in depth conversations that happen in the office. It is less appropriate if you have a small in house team with frequent touchpoints.

We use Lessonly for a few internal purposes. First, we use it to onboard new users and teach them about our policies. Secondly, we use it to make them subject matter experts in things like HIPAA and the health insurance industry. Third, we use it to enable our sales and client-facing organization on what we're building in the product and how to communicate it to our users.
  • It's extremely easy to build lessons with little to no training. It has a very usable UI. This creates a low barrier to entry for those who want to teach their coworkers something.
  • It's administratively easy to assign lessons, send reminders, grade them, and check their progress.
  • I love that Lessonly is always improving and letting me know how they're doing it.
  • I can't think of anything off the top of my head.
Lessonly is a great tool for anyone who is trying to quickly and effectively train their users. I think it's probably less effective for an enterprise organization with lots of resources to build their own training sites, like a Salesforce or a Genesys that can invest in their own "university." For our 120 person organization, it's perfect.

We've rolled out Lessonly for the sales teams and will soon be rolling it out to the customer success and solutions engineers teams. Eventually, we will roll it out to the whole company. It currently helps us address sales enablement needs, and it will expand to help us address all of our training and development needs.
  • Ease of use – You can create a lesson in 30 minutes or less.
  • Track the progression of your learners – See how they're doing and where there are areas for improvement.
  • Customize a learning library by topics – You choose what's important to the teams you're training and who sees what.
  • Their customer service team is unlike anything else I've experience – You're part of the family from day 1.
  • The way content is organized for admins could be improved – It's easy to search for content, but I'd personally like to have more flexibility around creating folders for different topics on the back-end.
Lessonly adapts very well to different scenarios. I used it at my previous company, where we rolled it out to 2,000 people in 27 countries. At my current company, we're around 65 employees in 3 countries. I've had no problems in either roll-out. It's great for anything from sales training to professional development and career progression/growth.

  • Lessonly has great practice elements, which is wonderful for hands-on learning.
  • Lessonly has an amazing staff, they are so supportive and are truly a partner.

  • Reporting could be better
  • Support in global regions could be better

Lessonly is used across our entire organization. It is our internal training tool. We have online lessons on both internal training as well as industry background in general. We also use Lessonly as a repository of educational information.
  • Remote learning. It is really easy to access the material online.
  • Ease of use. A user can really quickly figure out how to use Lessonly. There is almost no learning curve.
  • Integration with other software tools, such as Slack.
  • A learner can not print the material in an easy-to-read way.
  • A lot of its tools are geared towards sales people.
In my opinion, Lessonly is built for corporate training.
I would not use it in an educational environment such as a school or university.
