Overall Satisfaction with IBM Power
This system hosts the Oracle database and Cerner Millennium middleware for Hospital information systems. Using Power VM we've partitioned this server into 2 hosts - 2 VIO servers, 1 Database server, and 1 Cerner millennium application server. The beauty of Power System is that it is very reliable, hardware monitoring is done very reliably through home calls.
- Very powerful! With 1 CPU and 256 GM memory, it can handle the workload of the entire hospital's patient information system.
- The hardware itself is very reliable. You get warnings and get home calls before actual failures.
- System is fully redundant.
- Easy to use GUI to configure the server.
- LED display to show messages in a language rather than code.
- Decrease power consumption.
- Very reliable hardware.
- Engineered to run long time without error.
- Expensive.
IBM Power System S924 stacks up very well against Oracle Sun. The product future is well established. IBM is investing a lot of research and development to stay relevant in this segment. The combination of PowerVM, AIX, and the Power system makes this stack very reliable to run mission-critical systems.
