Overall Satisfaction with Kofax Power PDF (formerly Nuance)

Our entire law firm uses Kofax Power PDF. It lets us format and manage documents for filing in various courts' electronic case filing systems, which all require PDF documents. It also allows us to exchange documents with clients and opponents in PDF format securely. I use the software on a daily basis.
  • The software makes it easy to assemble and modify PDF files.
  • The software makes it easy to sign PDF files electronically.
  • The software makes it easy to save documents in various PDF formats (e.g., PDF/A).
  • Sometimes the menu options are difficult to locate.
  • Adding text to documents can be difficult--it's not always easy to find the Font and Size menus for text "typewritten" onto a document.
  • Installing the software can be a bear, especially if you re-install it. The company keeps tight control, and you have to get permission even to re-install it on the exact same machine if that is necessary. Too strict.
  • I cannot quantify the monetary effect that the software has had on our business. From a personal perspective as an attorney, I can say that it has saved me billable time in creating and managing PDF files for court filings.
  • I have not observed any large scale problems with the software in our business network.
The software is generally easy to use and intuitive. Sometimes options are difficult to locate within the menu system. Overall, I've had a good experience with the software, and I also use it at home now as a less costly alternative to Adobe products.
I find the software easier to use than Adobe Acrobat. The workspace is more understandable to me in Power PDF. And the menus, although not perfect, are easier to navigate.

Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365), Adobe PhotoShop
The forms editor works well. I also have used the "Typewriter" tool to add text to documents where there are not interactive form fields.
The software works really well when I need to stitch several files together into a single PDF to file with a court. It also works well to allow me to extract pages from PDF files when I don't need an entire document.

Using Kofax Power PDF (formerly Nuance)

People who use Power PDF in my office include legal secretaries and attorneys, mainly for handling documents and preparing for court filings.

  • It's difficult to see the firm using Power PDF in a different way. It's meeting our needs for document handling and court filings.
The program is impossibly difficult to run at home. Reinstalling requires permission from the company.
