Overall Satisfaction with MySQL

MySQL is the database solution that we use for our company. We connect through the Spring framework using Hibernate. We have it running in the Amazon RDS cloud solution. It used for both our web and mobile clients as the data store. It's free but very efficient and has scaled well with our needs.

  • It connects easily to the Spring framework
  • It's free and scalable
  • It doesn't have quite the speed of some paid solutions
  • There are other options that are free, so you must know what's the best for you stack
  • You must know how to learn the syntax differences
  • It is a free solution, so the ROI is essentially infitie
  • It has had no problem scaling with our app
  • It's well known, so almost any developer can come in and use it without much training
There are so many SQL solutions, it's difficult to compare them all. MySQL has a huge community and suite of tools to help it. However, it doesn't have quite the upside as the paid solutions. It's comparable to something like Postgres and all depends on the tools and support you need with it. MySQL is the best free solution.
MongoDB, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Amazon Relational Database Service
It's a great and free scalable solution. It has a huge community and support, so it's easy to integrate in almost every scenario. In addition, there are many data visualization tools out there to be able to view the database through a GUI. Any small to medium size company will be well suited to use this product.
