Overall Satisfaction with Oracle Java SE Subscription
[Oracle] Java SE [Subscription] is used in the whole organization but I am aware of the specific use in our department. We build enterprise applications with Java specifically, we build microservices for consumption in Angular/React frontend. Java is our platform of choice due to highly supportive developer community, secure runtime environment and feature rich frameworks.
Pros
- Secure runtime environment for application
- Highly optimized
- We can explicitly allow memory to the java. Making it appropriate for high memory use cases
- Code can be run in any platform due jvm
Cons
- Lack of native package manager though maven and gradle do the job really well.
- Code portability allowed us to run the same code on all platforms
- Security is always a key issue especially in the world of increasing cybersecurity laws. It only makes sense to invest in a secure development environment
- Developers appreciate rich community support for java se platform
[Oracle Java SE Subscription] for me is a platform preferable to develop application for medium to large scale enterprises. Subscription model is useful for continuous support and staying updated.
The alternative, Java se by oracle itself suits more for small scale developer teams though the feature set provided by java se are almost same.
