Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform

Veeam Data Platform is currently used to protect VMWare environment, both via VM backups and site to site replication. In addition Veeam Data Platform agents are used to backup data via agents.
  • Virtualized workloads
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • NAS filers
  • In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
  • In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
  • Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • Automating test restores to validate recoverability
  • Failover or recovery scripts/plans for orchestrated recovery
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • Worry free VM backups (full and synthetic)
  • Scheduled replication of VM's for BCP purposes
  • Agent based backup of files and SQL data
  • Better management of adhoc VeeamZip backups would be helpful but its already pretty good
  • Application Interface could use a more modern facelift

Do you think Veeam Data Platform delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Veeam Data Platform's feature set?

Yes

Did Veeam Data Platform live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Veeam Data Platform go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Veeam Data Platform again?

Yes

We currently protect 25 distinct workloads. Originally purchased licenses based on a per host basis, but that structure has gone away and shifted to a per workload basis. The flexibility to add licenses in 5pk increments allows for manageable growth as the needs change.
  • Its hard to measure business loss from downtime from a disruption when the restoration from Veeam Data Platform backups is so efficient.
  • Having to stand up Veeam Data Platform Proxies at each site for performance purposes was not a cost we had originally planned for but the time savings make it worthwhile.
Had previously used Arcserve, Backup Exec and a bunch of other backup solutions from previous positions. In building out the current infrastructure at this company, Backup Exec was the incumbent backup solution at the time and was configured at the agent level only. As needs grew and we added a secondary site, we revisited Backup Exec as a solution and compared it to Veeam Community Edition. The ease of VM backups drew us in and we've been using Veeam Data Platform for almost a decade now.
We are currently not using Veeam Data Platform, an alternate platform is in place for that.
Veeam Data Platform is currently used to backup NAS fileshares on a files and folder basis. While we have this capability, this is not used often beyond test restores to confirm functionality and data integrity.
For small to mid-sized businesses, particularly those with hybrid cloud (or those who are in the migration process) Veeam Data Platform can be your best friend. I have not used Veeam Data Platform in a multiple backup server scenario and am hesitant to recommend but the functionality is available.
