Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Vertex O series globally for tax determination and tax calculation on sales transactions and tax validation on purchase transactions. This includes sales tax in the U.S. and VAT/GST globally. We also use Vertex Returns and Vertex Cloud Compliance solution for automation our tax return preparation process.

Pros and Cons

Tax determination and calculation on AR transacitons
Managing different type of customer exemptions in O Series
Automation of U.S. sales and use tax returns
Provides a solution that is business user friendly (lowers reliance on IT for tax setups)

Automation of global VAT/GST returns (O Series and VVC are not compatible and many setups are needed in VVC to map data from O Series to returns in VVC)
Solution for India GST (Our understanding is that currently Vertex O series cannot be used with Oracle r12 in India)

Return on Investment

Ability to centralize oversight of global tax determination, calculation and compliance within a small tax team.

Vertex Tax Accuracy

We're yet to have an assessment on an audit stemming from a tax calculation error. As long as mapping and setups are done properly, Vertex can determine and calculate the correct tax.
