Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Vertex O is being used in all aspects of my organization. We use if for procurement, accounts payable, and sales. One problem with addresses is that we need to know to get the correct tax rates. Prior to when using Vertex Q Series, we always had issues with the wrong rates for jurisdictions with multiple rates.

Pros and Cons

Runs the sales report very quickly.
Adding a new exemption is much faster than Q Series.
Vertex O allows custom work arounds.

Creating a ticket with Vertex customer support is not easy.
Monthly updates can be time-consuming.
Too much functionality, need more specific training.

Return on Investment

Things are much more streamlined.
Takes the decisions off the user's plate.
Mapping issues with some product taxability categories.

Key Differentiators

Product Features

The product features are fantastic. The ability to test transaction on the spot in lieu of customer service issues is great. A lot of times I need to test the rate or taxability for a particular customer, and the fact that I can do it on the spot while I have the customer on the phone is really helpful.

Alternatives Considered

Avalara

Our company is way too large and has way too many transactions on a daily basis for a system like Avalara, and it was not able to handle all the data. With that said, it was a no brainer that our company to go with Vertex O Series for sales tax and procurement.

Unexpected reports that can be utilized.
Innovative in the updates.
Easy to use.

Product Configurability

Since I was not part of the IT implementation for Vertex O series, I can not accurately answer this question. I do know that our IT department did have a lot of complex issues when setting up the mapping for our products with comparison to the tax treatment Vertex was suggesting.

Exceptional Examples of Vertex Support

Any time that we as a company needed any assistance with the implementation of this software or Vertex Technical Rep was always available to help out or to point us to the right person. Dawn Reagan was exceptional in her experience and availability to help and assistance when needed on the fly.

Likelihood to Recommend

Vertex O is well suited in the sense that I can confidently say that the rates are much more accurate than they were when I was using the Vertex Q Series. A scenario that is less appropriate is the abundance of reports and functionality is much more complex and does take a bit longer to learn.
