Armor

Armor gives you what you need to be successful regardless of technical ability. If you can maintain the systems yourself, you are definitely ahead of the game with their service. If you're not prepared to configure and maintain the systems, they do a pretty good job of getting it set up during the onboarding process so that you don't need to dig into the technical guts too much. If you find yourself in over your head, their support staff can handle it for you in most cases.

Forcepoint Web Security

I strongly believe every small organization or IT department can benefit from Forcepoint. The dashboard is a quick way to see what is going on in your environment. The application is set it and forget it and gives me a strong secure feeling knowing malicious sites or content is being updating constantly. User do not know it is on their machine or device. They are alerted by a page saying that is a blocked site, if they really need access, they let me know and if I approve, I can quickly give them access.

Pros

Armor

  • Security - we have requirements met right out of the box and the implementation of new resources is done with security in mind.
  • Speed - We can scale resources easy and the infrastructure is fast and efficient.
  • Responsiveness - Support tickets are handled very fast with almost immediate solutions.

  • This package is one of the few that offers a category, quota time, that allows us to limit certain categories and or websites for staff that would normally be blocked for customers and may not be something that is needed in their day to day job duties. We allow staff one hour a day, broken down into six 10 min increments, to visit sites for shopping, travel arrangement and other areas that are more of a personal need than a business need.
  • Forcepoint has a wide selection of categories that can be enabled, quota timed or restricted at a top-level or you can go more granular and drill down to subcategories to allow for only partial access.

Cons

Armor

  • Authentication and access against the secure messaging portal is overkill when the response I'm logging in to see merely says, "yes, we have your message. An agent will respond shortly". There should be an option to receive updates like this through email.
  • The online portal that allows us to clone servers is very slow to respond. More than once I've spun up an additional server due to the lack of visual feedback on the initial request.
  • The web application firewall does not seem to be sophisticated enough to differentiate between logged in administrators and end users. We use a CMS system which allows admins to create scripts. These often get barred by the WAF even though they are not malicious.

Forcepoint Web Security

  • The user access logs contain a lot of useless information. I understand this is very hard to tackle as I've seen this across any product that logs web activity.
  • I would like to see more customization options of website block pages.

It is very stable, the organisation has "locked in" the product and has no plans to change or try another product. We have already renewed our 2019-2020 licenses. It is user friendly and people catch on easily when they first use it. The only downtime is when we install Microsoft updates! It has excellent reporting which help in determining how the organisation's Internet is used and also during both internal and external IT audits.

Despite the intimidating Linux CLI when you use the appliance for troubleshooting, the web security usability compensates as most of the Administration of the system is done there. It is GUI based and has an easy to use UI where one can navigate around rather easily like getting reports, checking alerts, looking the whole setup under deployment to check if all services are running in one place though there are other parts to the system.

Approximately 50% of all messages we receive are automated. Either that an agent will be assigned, has been assigned, or a ticket is closed. I'd like to see more 'real' interaction, and less box ticking, though I appreciate process has to be followed. That's the one point off. Everything else is very good.

The is a quick first response to acknowledge your issue and the Engineers never take more than two hours to fix an issue and we hardly get issues looking at the fact that the system is pretty stable. There is also a robust Knowledge Base in the site for known problems.

We have used many content filter devices in the past. None of them seemed to cover (at least at the time) the sheer amount of features that Forcepoint has for us. The cost of Forcepoint seems to be (again, at this time) under the cost of all the competitors we have installed or tested in the past.

  • It is actually a hard question to answer. As part of broader security infrastructure, it has performed well in its intended role. We have not suffered any significant breaches since it was installed. However, it is difficult to ascribe this solely to the Forcepoint Web Security. For instance, we also use the Umbrella DNS servers and they may prevent users from accessing malicious websites as well. Forcepoint provides flexibility where the DNS servers do not.
