It is necessary to enable [AWS] Cloudtrail when using AWS in a production environment, otherwise you will not have any idea what is happening within your accounts. Third party monitoring applications will all require [AWS] CloudTrail to be enabled as well. I would not recommend it solely as a monitoring tool, to get the most out of it you must send the logs elsewhere. Either to Cloudwatch logs or a third party product.

  • If you need to integrate some legacy applications to Cisco Secure Access by Duo, it's not easy.
  • If you want to have more detailed information and reports, you need to pay more for the licensing. The basic option is not enough.
  • A constraint could be that each employee has to install it on their personal smartphone, which some don't like. But, there is an alternative using SMS, although sometimes it takes too long to receive the message.

There are a lot of competing solutions on the market; however, Duo "just works", and there is little to no learning curve for the new members to be acclimated to it. As long as that continues I see it as the preferred option moving forward

I personally feel it is a must to have an app - anyone needs it at this point in time while we all switch to the hybrid work environment. Data security is always a priority of cisco, and hence this app ensures your access and device from where you are trying to access is secure. It is simple to configure, no need to go through a long process - easy to use and hence recommended.

In the last 5+ years we've been using Duo, there may have been 1 outage that impacted us. We do receive periodic notifications of issues but, for the most part, they impact carriers or functionality that we either don't use, or do not care about.

Implementation of Cisco Secure Access by Duo was easy and intuitive. Integration of third party applications via API interface was painless. ON the few occasions that I needed to work with support to troubleshoot an issue, I have been satisfied with the level of support that was provided. All in all, the implementation process was better than many other products.

The ease of building, implementing and searching AWS CloudTrail is second to none. The JSON file structure that included in CloudTrail in a log format is very useful. The logs will capture a lot of useful data from the API calls that can be used for crafting strong security policies if you choose to do so. This security policies can be implemented via Lambda or CloudWatch Events

Each vendor we spoke with had different strengths and weaknesses, some very subtle, and for our use cases, they'd probably all have worked; however, we primarily needed a MFA solution for RADIUS and web that was inexpensive, simple to set up, easy to manage, and backed by a large company.

    • Duo Security has been a positive ROI in that it has prevented unwarranted access to confidential information.
    • Duo Security has been a positive ROI in that it keeps me informed of what's going on with my devices.
    • Duo Security has been a negative ROI in that it costs money that I'm not sure is well spent all of the time.
