Likelihood to Recommend For any news editor, Dataminr is a must. It is the only platform I have used which I would 100 percent recommend to anyone who needs constant access and notification to all that is going on in the world's media. Various other platforms provide information, but Dataminr collates all these other platforms together into one easy to use interface. It is remarkably quick to check Dataminr after receiving a desktop or email notification and find out what is going on regarding a specific subject. As a news editor, I am required to manage a news team that produces copy for breaking stories, and Dataminr allows me to find news and commission it faster than any other platform I have previously used.
Read full review Rapid7 InsightVM is perfect for a scenario where IT admin or CISO wants to scan its infrastructure to be sure that there is no vulnerability that could be exploited from outside or inside the company. It also could be used to automate patching and dealing with vulnerabilities. It's also adapted for users that need cloud security management
Read full review Pros Collating various sources into one interface makes keeping track of breaking news remarkably easy. The live update feature means updates from breaking stories are fed directly to the consumer. This means users do not have to go out their way to find out every last detail of a story, and can instead use their time writing the story. Read full review Being a vulnerability scanner tool, its purpose is to scan the systems to find the vulnerabilities. We can define the assets like IP address for the scans and it also allows to either schedule the scan at a preferred time or start the scan immediately. Upon completion of the scan, this tool can result provide the details like host type, OS information, hardware address, along with the vulnerabilities. Rapid7 Nexpose has a list of templates to perform the scan. Once the templates are defined then the scans are performed accordingly. It also contains an option to add credentials/authentication using passwords, usernames, private keys to perform the credential-based scans which I think is a great feature. Read full review Cons Setting up Dataminr can be relatively obtuse. Although basic functions are easy to use, the more in-depth aspects require research and training to use correctly. Topics are very broad, which can be a negative at times. It would be useful to have 'football' as a topic rather than 'sport', for instance. Read full review In comparison to Tenable SecurityCenter we saw it didn't exactly find the same vulnerabilities which we would assume it should have We rely on a ticketing system and not our VM tool to assign tasks so wasn't too useful having that in there Filtering capabilities aren't as good as its competitors Read full review Support Rating Connection issues/downtime occur but they are rare and generally quickly fixed. There are frequent seminars and tutorials to teach the platform. This is an excellent decision from the company and has made me more willing to learn how to use Dataminr correctly. As a result of this, I use the platform more than I would have if I had been forced to learn everything myself.
Read full review I gave it a seven due to the functionality and general ease of use after the initial setup headaches, but compared to Qualys, Rapid7 Nexpose falls short on features and ease of use. Their support drags this rating down a point as well. I have gone weeks with no update on semi-critical issues and typically have to make call after call to get a semi-coherent response.
Read full review Alternatives Considered Before using Dataminr we did not use a similar platform, with stories discovered by simply crawling the web (
TweetDeck /Reddit/news sites, etc). Because of this, Dataminr has been a game-changer for us and has revolutionized the way we have worked since it was introduced. Being able to completely remove one aspect of the job (searching for news) has increased productivity in all other areas.
Read full review Nessus Pro does scans, but does not maintain an inventory from scan to scan. There is no history for a specific device, you have to look inside the results of each scan. Search across inventory is non-existent. There are no dashboards for data analysis. This is no tracking for remediation
Read full review Return on Investment Since starting to use Dataminr, our traffic has vastly increased. Though not entirely to thank for the growth, Dataminr has played a role in talkSPORT.com's ComScore increasing by 150 percent over the past 18 months. Increased traffic is partly due to producing more content, and Dataminr has directly led to discovering a number of stories we previously would have missed.
