ESO Electronic Health Record vs. Prime Suite EHR

For most EMS providers, ESO EHR is an ideal solution: It meets 95% of the needs for the typical EMS provider, provides an unparalleled ease of use for field personnel documenting patient care, and is easy to implement and administer. Large EMS systems should carefully consider the limitations of the underdeveloped quality management modules for QA/QI programs. Large or progressive EMS systems with an advanced data analytics/data science capability should be aware of the significant challenges and limitations ESO EHR poses for data use outside of the standard analytics reports.

PrimeSuite is great for a practice that has knowledgeable billing staff and a hands-on approach to billing; it is not ideal for those who need something more automated. You can customize PrimeSuite to prevent posting errors at charge entry and to catch some common mistakes. However, these must be set up by someone who knows what those errors are, and as payers change their requirements, they must be updated.

• Exceptional user interface/user experience design that is intuitive and easy to use.
• ESO, as a company, is deeply integrated into the EMS industry and recognizes customer needs better than competitors.

• It is a trusty software that does not crash or glitch very often

• The biggest gap is that doing QA/QI is not scalable or streamlined for a large provider. Managing an effective QA/QI program takes an incredible amount of labor and extra work.
• The lack of customization and custom fields heavily limits use of ESO EHR to capture new data points for internal quality improvement or research projects.

• Speed, it continues getting slower and slower with each new upgrade.
• Prime Suite does not use the screen space very effectively. On larger monitors with higher resolution, there is a LOT of wasted space.
• Strange errors pop up that give little to no useful information about what the issue is, and the typical response from support is to uninstall and reinstall the programs on the workstation.

Customer support has been spectacular: Personalized, rapidly available, and very helpful.

ESO EHR won out due to ease of use for providers and for administration. Other vendors had greater ability to do data analysis, quality management, and customization but ultimately were significantly more difficult to learn, use, and administer.

I liked PracticeAdmin for the way it showed key metrics and the simplicity of the software. However, you get what you pay for, and PrimeSuite has so much more functionality than PracticeAdmin ever did. I prefer the reporting, the options available in setup, just the overall customization you can do with PrimeSuite to that of other platforms.
