Joomla! is intuitive and lends itself to robust, more complex websites. There are powerful extensions though it does not offer as many free plugins compared to other CMS platforms. The functionality is great with a well executed framework. It's easy to get started with little to none technical knowledge which is a big plus

MS SharePoint
We primarily use [MS] SharePoint for enterprise content, document and record management, including storage, retrieval, searching, archiving, tracking, management, and reporting of data. Much of the impetus for this is to conform to various legal, information management, and process compliance requirements. Our SharePoint implementation replaces legacy shared corporate fileservers which have now been migrated to Azure cloud.

Pros
Joomla
- Multiple templates assigned on a page-level basis allow fine-grained control of your site design
- Excellent ACL out-of-the-box means you can have a mutli-user website up and running without needing to install anything additional
- Straightforward control panel and useful help features and documentation make it easy for people to manage their own websites

- Permission management: This is super relevant and wonderful for controlling what your audience can see and do, for example, when you need someone to constantly see changes to a "living document" but not have the ability to intervene in the process.
- Contact groups: I find it super good since not necessarily the site administrators are the only ones who can manage the group, you can make any member of the group can manage the rest of the members without this being involved in other site settings. Also when granting permissions, distributing documents, announcements, tasks, it is very easy to do it by group of contacts than one by one.
- Version history: We know that we are exposed to errors and accidents, so having the previous versions of a document, being able to see who has modified and having the possibility of restoring any of those versions can save the day. I always feel that I am protected and that is why I always promote working in the cloud.
- Integration with other MS tools: The workflows that connect outlook, sharepoint, onedrive, among others, where you can manage multiple actions for all these tools seems wonderful to me, it allows a super necessary and simple expansion to be able to automate tasks that used to be performed manually on a daily basis, it certainly contributes to efficiency.

Cons
Joomla
- Updating was never as seamless/easy as it seems to be with Wordpress. Obviously we accounted for this with our own workflow/methods, but I remember whenever we did WordPress updates it always seemed a breeze compared to the time/energy involved with a Joomla update/upgrade.
- For a while (I think this has changed some) Joomla left itself open to attacks when administrators were not as well versed as they should be. There were developer additions that did security checks/audits for you, but the CMS was the subject of a lot of attacks when left in the hands of our clients for a long time (who had changed permissions to make editing easier/convenient). Ideally the CMS would have been more restrictive on some of these things to prevent easy abuse. Obviously this is more the fault of the misinformed/human then the CMS, but it could have been more dummy-proof.
- No native versioning. There are some community extensions that add this functionality, but they pale in comparison to the versioning plugins of other CMS's (WordPress specifically). Again this was some time ago and in our experience, it could have changed by now.

- Managing access permissions is still clunky - not a whole lot better in newer versions than it was way back when it was first launched.
- Re-organization of the site hierarchy isn't very easy. You need a third-party tool to do anything meaningful when you want to rearrange your site pages and move site libraries.
- It doesn't provide for any kind of backup, so you have to either have it on=prem where you can backup the entire server or you have to buy a third-party tool if you are using the online hosted version (SPO).

I gave it a rating of 10 because I just love how Joomla! works, how it is set up and how it handles many users. Also it is very fast, and there is no overload on the MySQL database or servers ever.

It's integral to our business. It's already included with most of the Office 365 licensing we buy, so the cost is effectively zero. It stores our files, it is the foundation for custom applications, and Microsoft only continues to enhance its functionality and its connections to other Microsoft tools. SharePoint just keeps getting better and better.

Joomla! 3.x is easily installed either manually or via a script provided by your host. It contains most of the tools needed to begin creating websites right from the start. Those features that it doesn't have are easily installed via links and buttons from the thousands of extensions available in the community

Usability is a rather complex question. In general usability is good. Usability depends upon:
- Objectives
- User skills
- Experience with the software
- General concept understanding
SharePoint usability is heavily dependent upon the initial setup and layout of the system and the application. If the initial setup is done with forethought and planning, the environment will meet user needs.

Today's Modern Joomla performs very well and is robust and durable. The pages load faster than they ever did in the past and Modern Joomla's integration into other software or systems has become seamless. Modern Joomla sites will last long and will stay running forever.

Between the core Joomla developers who are excellent at answering questions and providing support, you have a whole community of developers who work with Joomla and are happy to help fellow developers out answering questions and supporting the Joomla project. Out of the many communities I am involved in for open-source software, Joomla's community is by far the best.

Support varies by tech and by vendor. I've used Microsoft's support channel and for the most part have been successful to get my questions answered. I've also used third party vendors and have gotten some answers resolved as well, though sometimes getting them on the phone is difficult. It all depends!

The face to face training I received was on SharePoint Administration. It was rushed as there was a lot of information to cover and the application of the labs weren't that great either. I like to be able to relate what I am learning to what I am currently doing.

I like to learn at my own pace and online training allows for that. Additionally, you can skip through pieces of content that you already know or are already comfortable with. Microsoft actually offers great videos on their website for basic fundamental SharePoint Training. I have used these training videos in some of my own training sessions with end users.

Joomla has gone through tremendous growing pains. It is now better than ever. But before, when it was going from 1.5-2.5, the templates and plugins would break over and over again. If you don't understand what Joomla was trying to do back then, you might have a bad attitude toward it. Today, those pains are over and things don't break like they used to during that time period.

Alternatives Considered
Joomla
I think Joomla is on-par with Drupal and Umbraco and similar platforms, but WordPress does seem to be above it. WordPress has become so common that there are more and more features becoming available to it that exceed the Joomla platform and make it hard to compete with. WordPress is also a lot easier for new users to get into and understand, but Joomla is still relatively simple.

I have been burned by just one year of using MS, from performance/reliability issues to non-intuitive UI's that I can't name an aspect or functionality that I'd rate SharePoint as doing better than the Google Suite (and Google Sites, specifically). SharePoint needs a total rebuild to be a viable product, or maybe they'll launch their own, less awful product to replace it like they did with Microsoft Edge to replace Internet Explorer.

- Reduces Maintenance Expense - Simple interface saves clients money on site management by allowing inhouse management where desired
- Ease of Updating - Reduces website upgrade expense by allowing template upgrades without the need for redevelopment of content
- Scalability is huge - Client gains entry to an enterprise level web presence with a smaller budget and can grow/add functionality as the budget allows without a redevelopment of the entire site.
