Micro Focus LoadRunner vs Oracle Access Management

Micro Focus LoadRunner and its suite of tools, specifically VuGen works wonderfully for us for all web, http/https and web service calls. We've been able to build tests for near any scenario we need with relative ease. As long as we have crafted up requirements for our scenarios / scripts to managed scope, we've had high success working with scripting and data driving. Our main tests are web service calls - typically chained together to form a full scenario with transactions measuring the journey or a similar (measure along the way) journey through a browser. For web services we will use VuGen and browser we've shifted to Tru Client I have had little-to-no experience scripting against a thick client where a ui-driven test would be required. I know its possible but quite costly due to the need to run the actual desktop client to drive tests. We've been fortunate enough to leverage http calls to represent client traffic.

Oracle Access Manager is a very important tool for network administrators whose job is to make sure that the company data is safe. The single sign-on capabilities allow for a better user experience across multiple applications while keeping the credentials hard to hack.

Pros

The ease with which the Test scripts can be recorded. Tests run and results analyzed when simultaneous users are accessing the application
Easy integration with the other HP suite tools
Ease of creating Virtual Users to run the test cases and even no limitation on the number of VUsers
Extensive vendor documentation and help system included
LoadRunner can work with most Enterprise Resource Planning Systems

Oracle Access Management allows superior session management capabilities. It can maintain and terminate session states using access engine and endpoint cookies or security tokens.
It allows for automated single sign-on as well as protocol translation.
The suite allows for real-time fraud detection and prevention capabilities. This is especially useful where our applications are accessed by tens of thousands of users simultaneously.

Cons

The UI of the software can be improved.
It should also have integration and testing or automation with mobile UI.
Configuration settings are a bit complex.

The product could be improved by simplifying changing the master password. That is, if you change a password in one place, it would be good to automate changing the password for all the gateways so that change is less complicated.
It should be more Customizable for Customer Specific needs.
Oracle Access Management connects well with Oracle Database but doesn't work smoothly with Microsoft AD.

Customer service is not that great. It's difficult to get hold of someone if an issue is supposed to be addressed on an urgent basis. No online chat service readily available.

Alternatives Considered

The biggest point of using HP LoadRunner is the response time numbers captured after executing the tests were more accurate when we generated the same by using tools like JMeter or NeoLoad though it involves a certain licensing cost but what [we] needed was trust and accuracy where it makes a high mark.Secondly, the support we get from HP is awesome and the online forums help us to resolve lots of issues in tight project situations while JMeter or NeoLoad has fewer forums or they don't have good documentation compared to HP LoadRunner.Thirdly, the analysis feature provided by HP LoadRunner is easier to manage and can see more detailed correlated metric. This will help the developers to identify the actual bottlenecks in the application (like tuning some configuration or SQL queries etc.).

Both are great products. From a technical point of view Oracle Access Management implementation is relatively simple due to the possibility to adjust the functionality and appearance of the system to the customer's needs. SAP is a robust product but not user friendly and more expensive. Overall cost and product functionality was what drove us to implement Oracle Access Management.

Return on Investment

It has been a huge help for our team to determine the impact our application was going through each release. With performance testing and with the tool as good as HP performance center, it enabled our team to build lighter software with good tech and system reviews happening for each release. Although I can't measure ROI in number, I would definitely say that we are building better software using the inputs from this tool.
It's ease of use and many inbuilt functionalities makes a performance tester's life a lot easier and efficient.

It help us to reduce password fatigue & exposure related to numerous applications within the organization thus enhancing the users performance
The single point of failure always keeps us in tension which make us little nervous about this Oracle SSO.
The cost of this product licenses adds to one of the dislikes.
