This is a good solution for a small development team who is supporting a site with many users. Many times, a shared hosting service is appropriate for a small business brochure site that gets a few hundred visitors per month, but if your site services user accounts that return or rely on information, this is a good option to rollout new changes and preserve existing data

When shared with multiple teams, I could not find many products better than this. I enjoyed working in this aspect, it was smooth in cross-teams transferring. They have a good foundation of technology I would say, the thing it is lacking is in the usability for non-technical people. I have seen many struggling with this aspect.

Cons

Sometimes the use of WP-CLI and Terminus (command line tool, not the marketing software by the same name) is necessary to complete a task when there ought to be a way to do that task via the UI
Sometimes Dev and Test URLs can leak into Production sites (and vice versa), requiring database UPDATE queries to correct. I'm told this is being worked on.

I needed support for many modules, where I think I was not satisfied.
The detailing of each module is lacking.
If you form clutter of files, there is no solution for it.

Alternatives Considered

We use whatever platform best suits our clients in terms of use-case and pricing, but Pantheon's UI is preferable to our team, and the platform is generally inline with our typical approach of building distributions from an upstream codebase instead of creating and managing a multisite with multiple databases powering individual sites.

I would select Sungard on the basis of technology foundation and functionality. It gave me an ample amount of features which I could use in a better way. The inter-team communication gets a better structure than the other products. I would use it on the basis of the above mentioned points. This has proven to be a good support for my team.
