Every team working on projects in the office or online needs reliable storage. Cloud storage is the perfect balance for teams that want universal access to documents in and out of the office, on any device.

Carbonite Safe aka Mozy is a cloud storage backup option for businesses, individuals, freelancers, and teams. Safe is a great option for businesses to consider. They can be used for online backup services, storage, and automatic video backup. Below we go into the software’s history and features.

All About Mozy: What Happened to Mozy?

Mozy was a popular backup service option offered by the Dell EMC corporation some years ago. Then Mozy was acquired, more than once, and ended up in the hands of their former competitor, Carbonite. Carbonite Safe is Mozy’s rebranded name even though the name Mozy still sticks.

The biggest question former Mozy users have about Carbonite Safe is, is the product still good? TrustRadius has Mozy reviews dating back to 2017, and more recent ones of Carbonite Safe from 2019. Overall, reviews are positive and Carbonite Safe has a high trScore of 9.3/10.

Carbonite Safe Storage Capabilities and Features

For some, the most important part is the amount of storage space a service offers. There are two separate sets of cloud storage plans offered by Carbonite, Carbonite Safe and Carbonite Safe Pro.

Carbonite Safe offers unlimited storage for all plans, but you can’t get additional storage to add additional computers. Carbonite Safe Pro plans have limited storage but offer up to 25 computers. Carbonite Pro plans offer 250GB and 500GB of storage and allow for 100GB additional storage.

Individuals and freelancers can definitely benefit from the unlimited storage and backup from any Carbonite Safe plan. Teams will find Carbonite Safe Pro plans more useful with better options for computer and server storage.

Carbonite Safe also aims to provide users with great security and usability. Your data will be encrypted consistently throughout transfer and storage. Your carbonite account itself requires a password. The vendor notes the protection of your personal data against ransomware and malware as a reason to use their unlimited cloud service.

Carbonite’s interface is designed to be easy to use with minimal navigation effort or complicated processes. If you need customer support the vendor offers free access to their support team.

Carbonite provides online backup solutions for disaster recovery, corruption, and data loss. Teams can benefit from having backups for theft or system crashes. Individuals can certainly benefit from protecting sensitive data from accidents like spills, breaks, or loss during travel.

Safe syncs on either your Mac or Windows computer, but backup for mobile phones is no longer offered. You can use Carbonite Endpoint on an iPad, iPhone, tablet, or any other Android or iOS device. Even though Carbonite Safe doesn’t have mobile backup, Carbonite the company offers another product called Carbonite Endpoint. Carbonite Endpoint offers protection and backup for your data on mobile devices, but it’s not to the same extent as Carbonite Safe.

In this next section, we go over the six different pricing plans for Carbonite Safe and Carbonite Pro.

Carbonite Safe (Mozy) Pricing

Carbonite offers two main subscription plans and charges an annual rather than monthly subscription fee. . The cost and features vary between Carbonite Safe and Carbonite Pro. Carbonite Safe is a good option for freelancers, and Carbonite Safe Pro is better suited for businesses.

Carbonite Pricing

The first set of plans for Carbonite Safe have unlimited cloud backup for one computer, server not included. Anyone with a computer with important data for work might find this plan to be the best deal. Alternatively, small offices with one computer may also benefit from this plan.

Carbonites Safe offers subscriptions for multiple years, but the one-year subscription is the shortest. Basic is the first plan at $83.99, and then the next two are Plus at $119.99, and Prime at $149.99.

The main difference between these three plans is Basic does not have external hard drive backup or automatic video backup. Plus does have those features along with access to Webroot Antivirus. Prime comes with everything and courier delivery of recovered data.

Carbonite Safe Pro offers three plans with specific data limits. Their Core plan costs $287.99 a year and provides 250GB of storage. The number of computers you can add is capped at 25. You can also purchase additional storage for $99.99 more a year with any Safe Pro plan.

The Power plan is $799.99, for 500GB, 25 computers, and 1 server. For Ultimate, you get 500GB, unlimited servers, and 25 computers.

Smaller companies that store a good amount of data will prefer these plans. Technical or development teams can protect their online projects or websites with Ultimate’s multiple server backup.

These storage options may not be enough for your needs. There are several other options for cloud storage. Below are the alternatives for Carbonite Safe.

Carbonite Safe Alternatives

Carbonite’s main competitors include Backblaze and Dropbox. These cloud storage options offer quite a bit of data storage and a range of plans with varying costs.

Backblaze offers customized plans based on your needs. They charge per license, and the vendor does not limit the number of computers or backup storage included in subscription plans. How much you pay depends on the number of computers you need and if you want to be billed monthly or annually.

Dropbox is more complex and has more specific options. They brag huge amounts of storage, but the storage is still capped along with the number of users. They separate their plans for personal and business use cases, but most people don’t need incredible amounts of storage unless they have a reason. For example how Freelancers, copywriters, consultants, etc. need to back up all their files or client information.

For one person, the Dropbox Plus plan offers 2000GB of storage for $11.99/mo, or $9.99 billed yearly. Freelancers that write, research, handle files or databases of clients could definitely benefit from their affordable storage. They also have a Family plan that allows 6 users for $19.99/mo and $16.99 billed yearly.

Dropbox’s Professional plan caters to only one person at a time for $19.99/mo or $16.58 yearly. Dropbox Standard and Advanced plans allow 3+ users and between 5000GB-unlimited storage. When it comes to these plans it comes down to preference. If you want the option for unlimited storage for more people, Dropbox and Backblaze are better. If you’re a freelancer, the cost of some Carbonite Safe plans can be better. Carbonite Safe Pro does not compare as much to Dropbox and Backblaze, especially for larger companies.

Before making a purchase, it’s good to note that Google Drive may be an adequate option for people that don’t need a large amount of cloud storage space. Google Drive offers 15GB of cloud storage that you can manually backup. Many companies also pay for 100GG to 1TB of storage on Google Drive because they offer far more than just storage. Google applications and integrations are an affordable option for growing businesses.
