Our Kemp LoadMasters are being used as a High Availability Active/Passive Clustered Pair to load balance all On-Premises inbound SMTP traffic and email access across multiple protocols (ActiveSync, Webmail, etc.).
It's used for the entire organization's email.
It addresses the business problems of:
1. Having a single point of failure for email ingress.
2. Providing a simple, robust load balancing and mail routing solution.
3. Guarantees performance as a dedicated load balancer separate from shared load balancer equipment used for other business segments like web and application.

-UPDATED APRIL 2021-
After successfully upgrading from LM2400s to X3s and greatly leveraging Kemp Support throughout the process, with unique unforeseen issues that arose, Kemp Support very aggressively deployed their Support Experts to walk us through the cutover on multiple attempts until we were successful.
  • Provisioning of Virtual Services to Real IP'ed internal systems.
  • Detailed logging facilitating rapid and easy Root Cause Analysis of issues.
  • Extensive Online community resources and excellent customer support for issues.
  • Simple, effective and intuitive UI design.
  • Effortless manual failover/failback and upgrading procedures.
  • Provided meticulously detailed upgrade-in-place documentation for transitioning to new hardware
  • Pursued Root Cause possibilities of unforeseen upgrade issue/misconfiguration scenarios
  • Ability to 'clone' existing Virtual Services for rapid deployment of similar ones.
  • A better API for ease of automation.
  • Simplification of Certificate management.
  • Better explanations of Kemp implementations of industry standard protocols like VRRP (or CARP)
  • More control over device factory reset configuration and forcibly breaking HA pairs at boot time
Very well suited for On-Premises MS Exchange environments where uptime/availability and performance are crucial. Environments where high volume email, including mass-mailings are needed. Companies with limited or generalist Infrastructure team members with fundamental knowledge of the protocols, that need to be able to quickly implement and leverage an enterprise-class mail load balancing/routing solution without needing hours of learning curve time or training to do so effectively.
-UPDATED APRIL 2021-
Well suited for Highly Available DNS (Windows/AD) provisioning, which we plan to use very soon in the future.

My company is using Kemp Loadmaster as load balancer for Exchange deployments, ADFS infrastructure and also for webserver farms with custom applications. Additionally, the reverse proxy feature with pre-authentication is used in some setups. We are a consulting/hosting company and have many customers using Kemp technology.
  • Ease of use - configuration is simple and there are templates for many use cases.
  • Support is awesome. If we ever ran into issues with more complex setups, we got quick help.
  • Value for money compared to competitors.
  • Integration into monitoring solutions is possible but could be more intuitive.
  • The web-based interface sometimes needs a manual refresh to show the actual status of services.
Kemp LoadMaster is an awesome product in load balancing or reverse proxy scenarios for Microsoft Exchange, but it can be used for other services too like ADFS, NPS, custom web applications, RDS farms, etc. The pre-authentication features also allow MFA to be used with products that don't offer a native functionality.
Kemp VLM, the virtual appliances, can be deployed and configured very quickly. I'd say, a Kemp VLM pair[ed] with HA for an Exchange deployment can be set up in 2 to 3 hours.
The Kemp LM is not supported as a reverse proxy for ADFS, although it could be used as such. But it can load balance Microsoft's Web Application Proxy instead, which is the native Federation Services proxy.

Kemp LoadMaster is being used by our whole organization to provide redundant and reliable load balancing to several different server applications. It addressed the need to allow access to 4 mail servers, 3 web servers, and 2 ADFS server by users and give IT the ability to run maintenance without blocking user access.
  • Where the LoadBalancer excels is the multiple levels at which you can load balance servers. We currently use layer 7 LB, but others are available as well.
  • I particularly like the ability for the LB to know when servers are down, and if all are offline then you can create a redirect to a static HTML page or some other destination that is more informative.
  • The ease in which a service can be created and deployed using already pre-canned templates makes it a very convenient setup process.
  • Really my only complaint is the web interface itself. It could use a bit of a facelift and start utilizing a more modern front-end. Mainly around each click is a page redirect which works fine, but many sites now save and load async while you navigate around.
I would say it is best used in any load balancing scenario. We use it to load balance mail servers and web servers in which the Kemp load balancer has worked flawlessly. With the added benefit of taking servers offline for maintenance and getting notifications when it is down, we've been very please[d] with this product.

We have implemented Kemp as a means to load balance our users hitting our AS400 web interface for JDEdwards It has drastically increased performance and currently looking into other applications to apply it to .
  • Port balancing on our Web based applications.

  • Increased User experience, making for happier users which in turn makes them more valuable.
  • Administratively it could be more user friendly... more in intuitive.

Used across whole organization as a HTTP load balancer. We had a cisco ace, which was old and outdated technology. This was easy to setup and migrate our existing rules.
  • Handles Certs and redirects from ports 80 to 443.
  • Takes care of the outages with the sorry server.
  • It isn't actually routing, so we have to make rules to allow ports 3389 thru for rdp. Admins require pass-thru access.

We have Kemp LoadMasters installed at multiple facilities. It is primarily used to balance the load on our application web servers for medical staff to access the systems. We utilize both load and location sensors to connect the doctor or other medical staff with the best / fastest web server available for their use.
  • Load Balances on both port 80 and 443.
  • Identifies which server is closest physically to the user for best responses.
  • Identifies which server has the lowest network response time for the best user speeds.
  • I would like to see better tools like wire shark built into the system.
  • Immediate viewing and digestion of logs would be beneficial.
  • I examine live grepping on a barracuda firewall and I miss that in the Kemp LB.
I have utilized Netscaler, F5, and far and above prefer the Kemp LoadMaster for performance, ease of use, and reliability.

Our Kemp LoadMaster provides load balancing for our telecommunication services. It has worked flawlessly to provide crystal clear, reliable phone service for our institution. It is easy to manage, robust, and reliable. The support Kemp provides has been absolutely superlative. On the few occasions where we have required assistance, they have been terrific to work with and got us where we needed to be in no time at all.
  • Reliable operation
  • Easy setup
  • Terrific support
  • Subnet gateway assignment on virtual services could be a little clearer
We use Kemp LoadMaster for load balancing our Skype for Business Server 2019 infrastructure. It has worked perfectly for eight years, starting back when we launched Microsoft Lync to start handling VoIP traffic. We also use it for load balancing for a number of other web services. Those services include web applications and Microsoft remote desktop services.

We are currently utilizing Kemp LoadMaster to load balance our web shops and internal tools and have integrated it with various third-party tools such as Azure DevOps, Redis, and Kubernetes. While invisible, it is being utilized to manage traffic across the entire organization. I've used competing load balancers previously and Kemp LoadMaster is the simplest, most efficient load balancer I have used in my 25 years in the tech industry. It allows SSL acceleration as well as a great way to load balance via VS or SUBVS options. The way I'm able to consolidate environments into groups such as demo environments, test environments, and production environments with an at a glance view is indispensable. The cost is the best price on the market, in my opinion, and the support team I have access to is excellent.
  • Load balancing
  • Virtual service management
  • Statistics
  • Alerting
  • Managing environments in groups
  • Statistics and graphs are a little outdated
  • Configuration changes have to be saved granularly
I've already recommended Kemp LoadMaster to my peers in the organization. For the price, quality, and simple learning curve, Kemp LoadMaster cannot be beat. In addition to using it for Redis, Kubernetes, and web servers, we're also using it for http to https redirection and SSL acceleration. As far as high performance virtual load balancers and reverse proxys go, I couldn't be more pleased with the results. It also helps us direct traffic among our many Elastic clusters as well as monitor the amount of traffic we are sending to each. It's nice to have a holistic solution that provides such great value at such a reasonable cost.

The Kemp LoadMaster is being used by our entire organization to address inbound email balancing across multiple Microsoft Exchange servers. Before the LoadMaster, we relied on round robin which was not always fruitful and the Kemp LoadMaster has resolved this issue. It took less than 30 minutes to implement with ZERO issues! The ease of installation, the ease of configuration and the user friendly interface are EXCELLENT! Kemp's support has always been customer driven for success and picks up the phone within minutes.
  • Application load balancing inbound for email.
  • Geographical load balancing.
  • Provides an EASY to use interface!
  • Honestly, we LOVE these products. I have nothing to the contrary to say - maybe if they were FREE, but that's it!
The LoadMaster we have found load balances our email servers, Citrix servers and more. Their support has been absolutely top notch, well informed, and any issues have been resolved in less than 60 minutes. I cannot say anything negative about these boxes or this company!! They are always willing to help and provide excellent customer service from prequalification to support.

We are using Kemp LoadMaster on the on-premises and cloud environments companywide. The product is not too robust, but it is serving out our need, and the support is exceptional. Thanks to the current size of the product, the fixes and features are implemented quite quickly.
  • Cloud ready
  • Supports most of the regular designs
  • Exceptional support
  • Monitoring/probing customization
This is a cloud-ready solution, which is not too robust. The resulting benefit is that the rollout went much quicker than with other solutions. The available tools cover most scenarios in the VLM, but if somebody want to go with a legacy setup, there can be better products (but not as cost effective as Kemp ones).

We use our devices as virtual load balancers for Exchange 2016, primarily. We have two sites with two LMs at each site in clusters. We also use the devices as global DNS services and reverse proxy/authentication servers for our external users. Our services are primarily Microsoft products being served. These include Exchange, SharePoint, CRM Dynamics, Skype, and ADFS. We are also looking at implementing websites in the future as required. SSL offloading is enabled. Our devices are set up in the network as well as the DMZ.
  • Edge security
  • Load balancing
  • Authentication
  • Dual factor authentication
ESP gives us peace of mind because it has taken over from Microsoft's Threat Management Gateway (reverse proxy) solution. It also alerts us if there are attempted security breaches so that we can be sure we are safe. The DNS Load Balancer makes it so that I don't have to worry about site failures. As it manages both our external DNS and internal DNS queries, we can failover to the individual sites as required. This is true for site failures as well as planned maintenance. We also use the Kemp 360 Vision, which monitors our services from an external perspective and alerts us via SMS and email, so I know if things go down.

We are currently using the Kemp LoadMaster for internal enterprise wide applications and websites that require high availability. We wanted a product that can do the job effectively, is easy to configure and manage, can be setup as highly available, and yet does not come with a very high price tag. The Kemp LoadMaster met all those requirements.
  • templates for well known applications (Exchange, ADFS, etc.)
  • Easy configuration and management
  • Well priced
  • Virtual HA between different hypervisors (example Hyper-V and VMWare)
From our experience, we have used the Kemp LoadMasters successfully for Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft ADFS, public-facing websites, internal websites and web-based applications, SharePoint, etc. Kemp makes it easy for some of the well-known technologies by providing templates for them. By using these templates, there are not much more configuration that needs to be done, which is very nice. We have also used non-template web applications that worked really well on Kemp.

We currently use Kemp LoadMasters across the whole organization. They sit in front of everything that we can/need to make highly available. Not only do we have them running on VMware, but we also have them running in Azure. They are rock solid and we have been using them for years.
  • Ease of use.
  • Good support model.
  • Support is getting expensive.
We use the Kemp load balancers anytime we need to do load balancing, or make DNS highly available across multiple data centers. They are easy to manage in a pair and have a free monitoring solution that alerts you when any of your real servers or the virtual servers are unhealthy. This isn't something that others do for free.

Kemp LoadMaster is used as a load balancer by all the users and for all web applications.
  • Easy to use. The interface is intuitive and there is no need to be Kemp expert to setup a new VIP or to make changes in the existing configuration.
  • Unlike some other products, all options and buttons are present here in the same page. Once you quit the page, either you did it well and it works or it does not work and you did not do it well.
  • Except for special rules, no need to configure groups or permissions or whatever in deep hidden pages before setting up your VIP. All you need is present in the same interface. Just click and select, that's all. The settings are auto applied.
  • Reactive support. The Kemp support team answers fast with revelant information.
  • The support knows that your time is important and does not ask for useless information. They don't ask for the 10 past years logs or what you have eaten last day ([questions with] no link to your issue, you probably got such weird questions with some other vendors )
  • No weird issues.
  • As far as I know, the Kemp LoadMaster does not create major issue for "bugs" or for any other reason. The appliances are stable.
  • I don't know. For the basic needs I have, the Kemp LoadMaster is enough. But as said, my needs are basic (creating VIP for load balancing http/https sessions, and sometimes redirecting webpages ). So maybe this appliance misses features but I don't need them at the moment.

The Kemp virtual LoadMaster is being used across the whole organization. The Kemp LoadMaster has addressed many problems and has helped us add more layers of security.
  • Excellent Customer Service.
  • Opportunity to demo before purchase.
  • Great pricing.
  • Easy to manage.
  • Templates to make configuration easier.
  • Need to have better way to organize the virtual services.
  • Easier way to customize login.
  • Work on their WAF intermittent issue.
Kemp LoadMaster has the ability to be suited for all business sizes. Their support team takes the time to walk you through it and help you understand why a rule did not work. When entering the virtual service, make sure it is properly documented with some sort of naming convention as it could be a long extensive list. I would question the manageability for a larger more complex infrastructure.

The entire company uses our two Kemp X1 load masters every day. The work together to provide SSO to Office 365, and other 3rd party software. They handle load balancing of our on prem exchange, and handle our on prem Skype for Business phone system.
  • Set it up and it runs with little to no maintenance.
  • Handles all workloads that need to be load balanced.
  • User choice of basic or advanced setups depending on need.
  • Migration to different units is very simple.
  • Backup process is very easy.
  • I really have nothing bad to say about the Kemp. It has worked great.
If you are trying to build any system in a redundant fashion I would look to Kemp to provide the solution. For us we use SSO, I am able to have internal, and external SSO address that just live virtually inside the Kemp than routing to the ADFS and Proxy accordingly. This allows me to reboot ADFS servers without any concern for users losing access. That is the same with Skype for Business, and Exchange on prem. This allows for Windows updates without having to schedule down time.

We use our Kemp LoadMasters for a variety of applications including email, SharePoint, and Skype for all users. This applies to both internal and external traffic for these services. These LoadMasters enable us to take servers offline for maintenance and introduce replacement servers ad hoc. In addition these make it easier to add security rules such as disabling older cipher suites.
  • Easy to navigate, you don't get lost in layers.
  • Easy to update, backups are easy and upgrades have not been disruptive.
  • Easy to make additional virtual services to get up and running.
  • It's reliable, we haven't experienced any downtime.
  • Honestly I can't think of a con!
Kemp is well suited for environments that can justify the expense of a load balancer but do not have staff with expertise on them. I came in with no experience and was able to manage them without getting too lost. Their support is great when you need some setup guidance also.

We use the Kemp LoadMaster with our on-premise Exchange 2016 using two services on a DAG at different locations.
The Kemp LoadMaster load balancer allows us to have a hands-off failover between servers, either in a Disaster Recovery model or during upgrades for security patches or service pack updates for the Exchange software.
  • Hands-off failover between systems.
  • Easy to use GUI.
  • No command line interface to learn.
  • Would like GEO function built on as add on.
  • To get more performance had to upgrade models, maybe a license based throttle.
  • Dual power supplies would be nice.
The Kemp LoadMaster load balancer is well suited for on-premise exchange system, either at one location or at two.
The Kemp is also suited to use for balancing web site traffic between system.

  • Most of the networking commands are designed with UI for closing port or opening a port which makes simple and clean.

  • Multiple SSL upload for single VIP can be added in future.
