Tableau Online has become an essential tool for organizations across various departments, providing valuable data analysis and visualization capabilities. Users from the Digital Marketing department rely on Tableau Online to accurately track lead and sale counts, as well as credit pass reports. By analyzing campaign performance and identifying areas for improvement, users are able to focus their time effectively and make data-driven decisions. Sales representatives also benefit from Tableau Online as they can track their performance and commission through the software. It acts as the front-end to the in-house sales commission system. Additionally, Tableau Online promotes collaboration within organizations by facilitating data sharing and visualization.

The analytics and reporting team extensively uses Tableau Online for automated sharing of reports across various verticals. Similarly, partners of Tableau Software leverage this tool to advise customers on usage, implementation, and support.

In addition to marketing and sales, Tableau Online finds applications in HR, procurement, trade, security, and other business areas. It helps track the impact of projects, investigate whether design goals are being met, and provides valuable business intelligence through visualizations and exploration of key metrics.

In my situation, we have a license that was purchased long ago and I need to change the email of this license, the only thing they answered was to contact the person who made the contract. The person who made the contract does not work in the company anymore. They don't answer if they are able to switch the email, they don't answer about what kind of license we have, or any other questions. I am extremely disappointed with the Customer Service.

Tableau Online is our major method of delivering our product to our clients, integrating our data and analytics. For example, we utilize it to assist us in analyzing our quarterly, yearly, and long-term objectives and metrics. Because it doesn't require a team of engineers to construct a custom solution, it's the most important business problem it solves for our company.
  • A wide range of databases may be seamlessly integrated.
  • Regardless of the device you use to access it, the look and feel are first-rate.
  • Displaying complicated data visualizations with a wide range of possibilities for interactivity for the end-user.
  • Only a few features are available for export.
  • License fees and the intricacy of the structure.
  • The processing time required to perform filtering on huge datasets might be prohibitive.
We just need to refresh our data once a day for our unique use case, which allows the complete online system to run on extracts. For us, this is critical because our daylight hours are spent focusing on new updates and implementations rather than worrying about excessive database traffic (which would be required with a direct connection to the online system). The process of importing extracts is straightforward and sturdy enough to handle massive amounts of data.

Tableau Online is used in my organization to help share and present data in meaningful ways, particularly with dashboards that offer dynamic visuals, slicing and dicing of metrics, and of course exporting filtered data into Microsoft Excel. It is addressing the business problem of having lots of data, and a need to summarize, visualize, and share this data across the entire organization.
  • Great visuals
  • Excellent customization
  • Easy data exports
  • Building dashboards and reports can get complex and sometimes difficult, depending on the source of the data
Tableau Online is well suited for companies with large datasets and a need to drill down into that data, as well as summarize it in a convenient way, and to then share that data summary. It would be less appropriate for a company that does not make use of data.

Tableau [Online] is being used across a big part of our organization, especially on the revenue and marketing side. Tableau has been integrated with our data warehouse as well as a variety of other data sources. It allows us to visualize big and complex datasets in a way that makes the data easy to understand for all users. The power of Tableau is to have dashboards and charts that help users understand the story behind the numbers, even when they are less familiar with the original dataset.
  • Visualize complex information in an easy way
  • Allowing publishers/users to present data amongst multiple different dimensions
  • Having integrations with underlying datasets that allows for scheduled refreshes of the data
  • Reduce barrier of entry for new users i.e. make it more intuitive for new users to join Tableau as a publisher
  • Mobile version is not as easy to navigate at the online/desktop version
  • Ad-hoc reporting
Tableau [Online] is very strong for solid, standardized reporting among a variety of different dimensions. It's easy to understand and navigate for regular users. There is also a wide variety of charts and visualizations to chose from which makes it relatively easy to tell the story beyond the numbers. Tableau [Online] is less suited for ad-hoc reporting.

We integrate our data and analytics through a Tableau Online interface, making it our primary delivery device of our product to our customers. We also use it internally for help in analyzing our scorecard metrics and to help us meet our quarterly, annual, and long-term goals. The biggest business problem it addresses for us is it allows us to deliver our product without having to hire a team of developers to build a custom solution to visualize our data and analytics.
  • Robust data integration with a variety of databases
  • Ability to display complex data visualizations with many options for user interactivity
  • Look and feel is impressive no matter what device you use to access it
  • Exporting functionality is limited
  • Cost and complexity of license structure
  • Filtering on large datasets can at times be slow
In our specific use case, we only require a once a day refresh of our data which allows the entire online system to operate off of extracts. That is very important as we use our daytime working hours to work on feature updates and implementation items rather than having to worry about any extra load on our database (which would be required with a direct connection to the online system). Importing the extracts is rather seamless and robust enough to handle large volumes of data.

Scenarios where Tableau Online would be less appropriate is where there is a high need to export and distribute data and reports. That functionality is rather limited in the online system.

Tableau [Online] is primarily used to create, publish and share the reports and dashboards across the organization. Tableau Online is used by the different functions in the organization to access the reports relevant to them. Tableau Online helps get rid to excel based dashboards and reports which at times were not portable and also now the reports and dashboards are updated as soon as the new information is available. Also, it is very convenient to manage who can view or edit each workbook which was not possible with excel based reports.
  • Tableau Online is completely cloud based and that's why the reports and dashboards are accessible even on the go. One doesn't always need to access the office laptop to access the reports.
  • The visualizations are interactive and one can quickly change the level at which they want to view the information. For example, one person might be more interested in looking at the country level performances rather than client level. This is intuitive and one doesn't need to create multiple reports for the same.
  • The feature to ask questions in plain vanilla English language is great and helpful. For quick adhoc fact checks one can simply type what they are looking for and the Natural Language Programming algorithms under the hood parse the query, interpret it and then fetch the results accordingly in a visual form.
  • Mobile experience is not at par with the desktop experience. The functionality set is limited and the UX is not that great. So this needs to be improved in leaps and bounds.
  • It's unintuitive to create dashboards for a new user. There is a long learning curve in order to figure out how to get different things done with Tableau. So the learning curve is long as of now.
  • Tableau Online still doesn't get the entire gamut of Tableau Desktop features. With the world moving towards cloud, the entire feature set has to be present in Tableau online as well.
Tableau Online is great boon for the people who keep on travelling and now they don't require to access their laptops in order to access the latest information or reports. Further, with Tableau Online, it's easy to distribute the reports and one can use different cuts within a report as per their requirements.
Also, in organizations where data is sensitive and one department's data should not be accessible to others, Tableau Online works wonders as now the report owner/administrator can manage the access to each individual report or workbooks within a report as well.

Data from all parts of the organization. Everyone collects it. Everyone creates it. But what does it do for you? Without getting meaningful information from that data. It’s just numbers on a spreadsheet. Dashboards are a really big buzzword in all industries, but being able to take data and turn it into actionable information. This turns all that collecting into something valuable for your company.
  • Data analysis
  • Actionable information
  • Helpful insights
  • Customization
  • Customization and integration know how.
  • Organizational structure.
  • Data entry.
This is a great piece of software for organizations looking to gain insights on the great data they spend so much time and money gathering at the highest levels possible. This is not something for someone looking for something simple like what you might be able to achieve with a simple database. This truly shines when bringing in multiple databases and stores of information.

Our organization uses Tableau [Online] to effectively share data across many different business units. We have so many different data points and were previously using excel and other tools to share it with less than stellar results. We find that using Tableau [Online] makes reporting cleaner and easier to understand. We also built an integration with our software so that our customers can use our API to pull data from our tools to build their own reports in Tableau.
  • Dashboards
  • Compiling data and making a variety visual charts
  • Connects easily to most databases
  • Can easily blend data
  • Usable on many different device types
  • Their paid version can be pricier than some competitors
  • Report distribution can a challenge
  • You need technical resources to get things up and running
[Tableau Online] is a very robust tool and allows you to create reports for all different levels of your organization. And with it's ability to extract data from so many different tools, you can easily pull in data from many different systems to give you a single report. You can also easily filter dashboards to show different levels versus having to edit. Once up and running, it is really pretty easy to generate dashboards.

We use Tableau for both internal company-proprietary and external customer-related visualization and interactive exploration of our key business metrics. Tableau helps us find the needles in the haystacks that we didn't even know we were looking for. Fantastic integrations with all of our 3rd party tooling, and seamless data ingestion means that no matter where the data originates, we can count on being able derive business intelligence from it quickly and easily.
  • Fine-grained permissions and user access tokens allow sensitive data to stay in the right place.
  • Scheduled reports save time by delivering data when we need it.
  • Online search makes it easy to find what you're looking for.
  • Mobile integration is not quite up-to-par with desktop in terms of performance.
  • Data filters can be clunky to use.
  • Sorting can be quirky when dealing with multiple character encodings.
Pretty much the best option for performing data visualization on large data warehouses and data lakes. Infinitely scalable and integrations with many 3rd party tools. Creates visualizations that both technical and non-technical stakeholders can rally around. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to improve their business intelligence.

Tableau is currently used by our analytics and marketing team. I currently use it for merchandising purchases, it is a great tool to see what items are selling and what the inventory status is all in one. I have filters in the tool that are flexible to what I need and I'm able to merchandise our products online more efficiently.
  • What I love about Tableau is that I can filter items by SKU performance. We have tons of items that feature different colors and designs and I am able to see which option is selling the best and provide that information to our buying team.
  • Being able to see the currently available units, excess and inventory projections has saved me the time when it comes to picking which item I should feature when I am merchandising.
  • There are many filtering options within the tool so it is easy to personalize data and export results that you need.
  • I'm not sure if this is standard for everyone but our Tableau is updated twice a week so the information may not be the most up-to-date possible.
  • There's no search function in the tool which would help me a lot if I am seeking information about a specific item.
  • There are frequent software updates which require you to completely reinstall everything.
Tableau is really useful for merchandising the website and homepage. If I have no clue what to feature, I can easily open the software and search which categories or items are performing the highest and also make sure I have enough inventory to support it. I guess it would be less helpful if I were searching a specific item because I would have to do a lot of filtering since there is no search capability.

We majorly use Tableau Online to share live interactive dashboards with our clients containing insights of our SaaS service usage that they have signed up for. Using Tableau Desktop first, data is imported from our SaaS platform and dashboards are created according to what the client wants to be updated on in real-time without constantly nagging us to create manual data and share with them. Instead of creating our own analytics platform from the ground up, we leverage Tableau Online to share custom analytics dashboard with our clients.
  • Features like Workbook-specific permissions help us control who in our client's team can do what with the Tableau Online resources that we share with them. We mostly assign to them the user role of a viewer or interactor based on the scenario.
  • The Ask Data function really comes in handy as instead of wasting time using multiple filters, one can just write their query in simple English and get the results. Of course, it won't fulfill your every request, but it works ninety percent of the time.
  • Overall, Tableau Online provides many robust account-based administrative functions. One of them is the ability to check each user's history and activity to prevent or diagnose data leaks.
  • I feel that the interface is not as beautiful as other BI vendors out there. When one clicks on an interactive area to view the underlying data, the resultant data tables look very archaic and unappealing. Even the resultant dashboards are very uninspiring and lackluster in terms of aesthetic beauty. Like every other product and website nowadays, I think Tableau should adopt the philosophy of material design with bold colors.
  • The interface can sometimes feel clunky and not the most responsive. Pop-ups or underlying data take time to display. Loading times can be improved a little as data and sources get more complicated.
  • I understand that Tableau Desktop is the central hub to create reports and dashboards, and the online variant predominantly to share them with others. Still, some last-minute editing capabilities should be provided to Tableau Online.
I think the whole service is suitable for people who don't have the time or resources to build a real-time analytics engine and integrate it with their product or service. You get a ready-made platform where you can instantly create insightful reports of your client's usage of your service and share them with multiple stakeholders.

My organization uses Tableau Online to track employee performance statistics, trends, competitions, etc. It is used across the whole organization. It addresses the problem of having accurate data to coach our employees. We use this platform on a daily basis. It is a necessary part of being a manager with our company, but we have also given access to our field employees as well. This way they can track their own performance daily.
  • Tableau Online has a really good search system to help users find data.
  • Tableau Online has a system to send regular reports of workbooks that users choose to subscribe to.
  • Tableau Online has a very user friendly app that can be used by anyone with no formal training.
  • Tableau Online refreshes on an hourly and daily basis to make sure its users always has up to date data.
  • Tableau Online could be better when pulling up data on a phone. Some data is cut off and is not able to be expanded for mobile viewing.
  • Tableau Online mobile requires a manual refresh each time you log on. It does not default to the latest data.
  • Sometimes I am not allowed to log on unless I clear the cache or cookies. I rarely have this issue with any other sites.
I would definitely recommend Tableau Online if asked by a colleague. It has so many great features. Of course it is not a perfect system, but no system is perfect, right? But if you need a database to house your data, this is one of, if not the best, I have ever used. The mobile version is great when using a larger mobile device, but it is not as convenient when on a smaller device like an iPhone.

The analytics department in my company uses Tableau for its daily/monthly/Annual reports. It is a terrific data visualization tool that helps our users visualize data as and when required, without many complications. Trend analysis and forecasting is a key to using this software, and this is where it comes in very handy. All the data metrics are accurately tracked. It provides powerful data insights. All the heads of different teams use Tableau daily. It is particularly useful when there is data integration with other software required. It also offers a layer of visualization that is superior to traditional Microsoft products.
  • Tableau offers a layer of visualization that is superior to traditional Microsoft products.
  • It provides out of the box data visualization tools, and the opportunity to customize these views for business use.
  • Extensive data source support/seamless data import.
  • Easy implementation of enterprise-level security and access with integration with AD Groups.
  • Tableau Online could improve its mobile interface, which requires training, and lags when trying to import large files.
  • Tableau could have a feature such that workbooks that are connected to live data sources could refresh automatically instead of having to publish from the desktop every time you want updated figures.
  • Limitations can be frustrating if you are used to using the Desktop version.
In mostly onshore/offshore scenarios, it is more useful. If developers developed some graphs and management wanted to showcase it in front of a business, they can get access to Tableau Online and present it.
Tableau Online is well suited for sharing reporting and/or analytics across different departments. As an organization that has a number of employees who work remotely, this software allows for constant collaboration, regardless of location.
In cases of a complex dashboard, filtering can take a while, and refreshing of data is quite slow.
Editing the dashboards is quite complex; we have a dedicated team that needs to manage these, as most users are unable to do so. It's not easy to filter data.

I use Tableau to review and analyze our reports for new insight and for sharing program performance with our staff across various organizations.
  • Visualizing data and making it more accessible to everyone
  • Easy to get new insight
  • Improve communication throughout the organization especially when it comes to performance
  • Software price is certainly has been one of the main reasons we couldn't expand usage widely
  • More communication and training for people un-engage with data otherwise
  • More customization on visuals

My company used using Tableau to perform most, if not all of our in-house analytics, it not only speeds up the process of our in-house analytics, but it also gives us plenty of options to customize and filter our reports.
  • Easy to use
  • Customizable
  • Integration with other software
  • Requires training
  • Lacks the ability to clean data prior to being imported
  • Lags when trying to import large files
I would recommend to a large company with sufficient funds that are trying to import small data files and from one source that has a need for data visualization. I wouldn't recommend it to a small to mid-tier company with less $ as the ROI isn't there in my opinion.

Tableau Online is being used by the organization to have a better grasp of our customers' interests, behaviors, spending trends and reading consumption habits. This addresses multiple business needs, across several business lines, to understand how customers interact with our information and content, especially defining the specific distribution channels and outlets that are most used, as well as the cross-collaboration between print, digital, events, GIS and research.
  • Tableau Online makes it easy to visualize raw data into easy-to-understand charts and graphs.
  • Tableau Online allows me to connect to and access our data from anywhere, not having to rely on the application only running on a local machine.
  • Tableau Online allows us to provide meaningful material, regarding data, internally and externally, where necessary, at a moment's notice.
  • One downside of being online is that you're required to be connected to update data. This connectivity isn't always applicable - airplanes, subway, etc.
  • An automatic connection between Tableau Online and Tableau Desktop, with bi-directional sync, would be a great addition to the platform.
  • Having training material, that's more aligned with our business goals, would be ideal.
Tableau allows a user to quickly get necessary and simplified details from complex data sources. It's well suited for new users to get up-to-speed, quickly, on smaller data sets, and allows for more complex data analysis to be done by data analysts and scientists. This provides a powerful business application to move our data practices forward.

Tableau is being used by our organization in various departments. The main use of Tableau is to demonstrate Dashboards from different areas of the company to understand trends. The dashboards are used for GAP analysis and forecasting. Information is viewed very easily and gives a holistic view of the situation/historical data. Tableau plays a very important role in management meetings and conference meetings. Data is integrated from various data sources to create meaningful reports.
  • Very nice dashboards that have a great visual design.
  • Great integration capabilities with other programs and languages.
  • Helps perform GAP analysis for management meetings and a single page snapshot to give meaning to data.
  • Tableau is very expensive and the pricing is inflexible. It is catered more towards large organizations and cannot be flexibly used by mid-size firms.
  • After sales support is not up to the mark.
  • Versioning is not great when you upgrade the software. This is a very simple possible improvement. IT security is not up to the mark when we ran results by attacking the software. Sometimes IT support is required when you upgrade.
Tableau is very well suited for large organizations because of its cost. It has a great visual design. It is particularly useful when there is data integration with other software required. Dashboards come out very well in such cases and help make sense out of data. These dashboards are used on a frequent basis once a baseline or a parameter is defined. Trend analysis and forecasting are a key to using this software and this is where it comes in very handy.

Tableau Online is extensively used by the analytics and reporting team at my organisation. The reports generated using Tableau are shared (in an automated manner) with teams spanning various verticals across the entire organisation. Tableau fulfills a critical use case for the analytics team - allowing us to monitor data and deliver quick insights.
  • For a business that executes frequent data-driven decisions, Tableau can be very helpful.
  • The visualisation options offered on Tableau are simply brilliant.
  • One can choose between Tableau Online and Tableau Desktop. Using Tableau Online waives users of the responsibility of maintenance at their end.
  • Sharing reports to users / business folk who do not use Tableau themselves can be challenging.
  • While the visualisation options are great, Tableau seems to let go of simple Excel-like features. Having a combination of both would be far more powerful.
  • Integration with other softwares could be better.
As a business, if you do not wish to invest money, effort, hours, and people into managing servers and maintenance at your end, Tableau Online is a great choice to use. It allows you to work on the things that really matter.
On the other hand, having Tableau manage and maintain your servers comes at a price that not all organisations can afford.

Tableau Online is used by various departments in our company as interactive reports and dashboards which help the company make data-driven decisions as well as anomaly detection for our Dev Ops.
  • No local maintenance. This is in comparison to Tableau Server which requires local installation and maintenance. Getting upgraded to the new version of Tableau Online is automatic.
  • Most comprehensive data visualization software I've used.
  • Tableau has never been good at creating tabular workbooks like spreadsheets. This is not its selling point, but there's still a lot of people who are used to and expect this format.
  • Being able to send a non-interactive copy of a workbook to a large group of recipients (possibly people who don't have licenses) in Tableau has always required workarounds using the tableau command line tool. Hope there's a more straight-forward way of doing this.
Tableau Online is well suited for people who would rather not maintain their servers locally. Tableau, in general, is well suited for people who need graphical visualizations of their data and not just spreadsheets-like tabular reports.

It is used in the Analytics department. It helps to visualize the data much better.
  • Amazing visualization
  • Excellent support
  • Good integration with R & Hadoop
  • Should be as simple as Excel so that the person with no IT training can use
  • Not comfortable with the security
  • Costly
Well suited for quick visualization and data pull. Need functionality for scheduling.

Tableau is being used on a departmental basis, but I'm seeing it increasingly rolled out across orgs. It's a bit pricey so I think that's where the hesitation has been in adopting company-wide.
  • Consolidated real-time reporting
  • Good visuals (charts, graphs, etc.)
  • Handles large data sets that excel cannot
  • Does require some upfront training
  • It's pricey to obtain user licenses for everyone
  • Because of the costs, it's important to ensure there is high adoptability and you are not paying for licenses that go unused
Very good for creating dashboards that are updated in real time. This is great for executive reporting and anything that needs to be published on a consistent repeatable basis because you don't have to manually go in and update charts, data, etc. It's good for having data feed in directly in real-time and once you have reports/charts set up, there is little manual effort required to keep updated.

We are using Tableau as the BI backbone for our groups. Though mainly used by our sales organization to help them see into their customer segments, geography, and customer buying patterns, it is also used to aggregate that data up to the management decision makers as well. We have external stakeholders who rely on that information as well.
  • Data visualization is bar none the best feature on Tableau.
  • The ability to drag and drop and ease of use to slice the data into different views.
  • Being a dashboard tool in a more intuitive and more stable than an Excel based dashboard.
  • While user intuitive, that is really only true for those with data analysis and BI experience. This is still a tool for experienced data crunchers and not something I would unleash to many in my organization.
  • Still requires business intelligence consumers to be specific in their requests for data in dashboards, so it still requires the touch point between the data and the user, it requires someone with some know-how, to be in the middle. So it is still not democratizing our organizational data.
You need to have enough data to make sense. The value really comes when you add unstructured data so if you are using structured data only from a single system or you have a holistic system the cost may not be justified. However if your holistic system has a poor dashboarding system or their third party add-on for BI is cost prohibitive for your user base, tableau is a great choice to augment your existing systems.

Our organization (Dun & Bradstreet) leverages Tableau to visualize data found in D&B. The speed and power of the tool is unparalleled and is becoming an important tool we use to work with our clients and partners. At D&B, our very large database of 253 global companies requires a highly interactive visualization tool to unlock the insights and depth of information in this dataset. Tableau addresses a wide range of business problems. We use it to illustrate data in Procurement, Trade, Security etc,.

Tableau is used across several groups and depts. within D&B.
  • Very quick to ingest data and get to the visualization.
  • Powerful visualization options allows us to present the data in different perspectives and aligned to user business requirements.
  • Much more flexible thanExcel or other tools to allow us to zero in on key data elements, find exceptions or identify patterns indicative of further analysis.
  • Tableau creates emotional appeal and interest in the data.
  • Makes it easy for any user to understand the data and figure out how to leverage the insights.
  • Would be nice to have a guide or "wizard" help with design suggestions during the building of Tableau visualizations.
  • Suggest ways to improve the data being loaded into the tool.
We find it best suited where normalised data can be readily found.
