Overall Satisfaction with Checkout.com

We use Checkout.com payment gateway for collecting payments from customers who make hotel reservations on our website. We only use it for card payments. Recently also started using it for digital wallet payments (Apple Pay), soon will enable Google Pay too. However, would like to also offer APMs and instalment payments to our customers.

  • Enabled Apple Pay only through Checkout.com because the 3DS document was well-written and clear about liability shift conditions
We wanted to offer local payment methods in the Gulf region, such as MADA, however, turned out that we as a merchant needed to have a local entity in that region. It would have been much better if Checkout.com itself having a local entity in those regions be sufficient for us to enable MADA for our business. The demand from those regions is increasing yet we are unable to provide service due to this limitation.
When we had technical issues with payments in the past, the support team was not very helpful, rather were sending template responses. Overall, we did not have many technical issues with payments.
About regulatory advice, Checkout.com was helpful with communicating changes to us, although not customising them and send all changes to us, making it difficult for us to know if this particular change is related to us or not. 70% of the cases, they were not related to our type of integration.
The settlements are daily in Checkout.com. However, the fees could have been lower. 3DS documentation is clear in Checkout.com, which is why we only activated Apple Pay through the Checkout.com payment gateway. The dashboard is easy to use for setting fraud rules. Analysis boards could have been better - i.e. the decline reasons for payments are shown with reason codes, which is inconvenient to go and check every time what this code is.

Liability shift is an important issue for our business and Checkout.com has a clear guideline for this in its 3ds documentation publicly available. The payouts are daily. Transaction fees are present in the dashboard under a transaction. Easy to configure fraud rules settings are available. Not ideal for APMs, not ideal if you want to have a direct integration with Xero or to see balance figure from the dashboard.
