Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (Cisco ACI)
We use it in Network Centric Mode, several separated PODs, we use it as a private cloud. It’s agility and flexibility as a product to automate integration with VMware and UCS integration makes every deployment simple to just a couple of clicks, it solves time for deployment, it brings full availability of each link since it is a VXLAN fabric. Integration to many products seems native, and makes easy to move from a contract type of deployment to other type of similar deployments again with just a couple of clicks. It’s integration with POSTMAN is essential to configure tenants with libraries or get information.

- It’s integration with compute using UCS integration, automates the VLAN creation and assignment in the UCSM
- Rich API scope, you can deploy tenants within seconds.
- Move from a legacy environment to a network centric in ACI is doable through multiple ways.
- It’s operations and troubleshooting module with the audit and alerting provides good insight of what could be causing the issue(if there is one).
- It’s endpoint visibility in GUI looks good but through CLI they disappear, and makes things harder to troubleshoot.
- Positive impact moving off of legacy to ACI has shorten costs of operations.
- Native support for automation makes deployment easier and takes few mins than large amount of hours that can bring costs (OT over time) since it takes minutes to deploy this OT cost has decreased.
- Troubleshooting made easier, this gains customer trust, therefore we get to spend less time trying to solve an issue and less operations costs.
It’s native support to applications through Application centric mode it’s attractive when deploying in a private cloud environment and it’s ease integration to compute/VMM resources allows the deployment procedure to be much efficient. Also Cisco is a lead in the market that provides a big level of confidence when deploying this products and most of the customer already know this products or have them operationally.
ACI has saved us time from the get go, it’s deployment mode takes few mins if no seconds. From the scalability perspective whether you have a single POD or a stretched fabric the scalability is beyond words, it allows you to add more leaf switches if needed as plug and play or more servers whether you have HCI or multiple UCS, at the end of the day the scalability is easy to get if you take advantage of the features it has to offer.
We went from configuring in legacy to ACI which has multiple automation methods. ACI has a rich API you can use it to consult status, to push config. You can use POSTMAN and just add the APIC URL and create your own library with multiple deployment scripts and you should be good to go. You can also deploy using python and whichever way works, and make deployments take few mins if not seconds depending on what’s being deployed.
