Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst Switches

We use the catalyst Series to support our services we offer to enterprise customers. In that role They work quite nicely because they are easy to get up and running with no hassle, they are easy to train new engineers on configuring services on as the Cisco commandline is the most well taught in the industry, and they are pretty reliable, almost every time one of these things drop its because of a local power issue rather than the device itself.
  • Easy to configure
  • They make it easy to troubleshoot
  • Resilient devices allow very high uptimes with no issues.
  • "Show current" command to see details on what you are configuring instead of "do show x"
  • Speeds up SLA time
  • Reduces training cost
  • Cisco support shortens resolution time
People coming in usually already have some cisco knowledge which makes it easier to get people working on them and also becomes the default mode of thinking about what commands are ran to troubleshoot and concepts are learned in relation to their cisco equivalent. While I don't have statistics on this I have a gut feeling that the huawei devices were more prone to software errors.

Do you think Cisco Catalyst Switches delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Cisco Catalyst Switches's feature set?

Yes

Did Cisco Catalyst Switches live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Cisco Catalyst Switches go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Cisco Catalyst Switches again?

Yes

I've not run into a situation I've felt they were not appropriate necessarily but I've had a few scenarios where we have deployed a Catalyst that was fairly overkill for what was needed because it's what we had available, for example deploying a 3750-48TS at a location to support a single customer.
