Overall Satisfaction with PowerCenter
PowerCenter is being used across the organization for all our ETL needs, be it generating flat files from different sources or loading data from legacy systems into data warehouse or integrating multiple systems for reporting needs.
Pros
- Ability to work with different types of sources and targets.
- Version control of the code.
- Ability to integrate with LDAP for security.
- Ease of use.
Cons
- Performance with ODBC drivers can be improved.
- Memory utilization is very high during ETL execution.
- Improved scheduling capabilities for in built scheduler.
- Has been a very powerful tool with respect to EDW loads.
- Has been a very good tool with integrating data from legacy systems with newer application.
- Has been good with providing compliance extracts and encrypting the data.
PowerCenter can be run from different types of OSs and can integrate with multiple types of databases and applications compared to SSIS. PowerCenter performs better with any type of database due to its ability to use native drivers to read as well as load data. Due to its seam less integration with IDQ it can clean the data in a much easier and faster way than SSIS.
