Overall Satisfaction with Solid Edge

We use Solid Edge to create parts and assemblies of our logistics solutions. Our main issue is the performance of large assemblies in combination with our PDM solution. Simplified parts do not help because then the parts are even slower to download and take longer to open.
  • It's easy and intuitive to use.
  • You can customize a lot to your needs.
  • It's hard or sometimes impossible to undo certain operations.
  • Documents get "dirty" even if you just change the view.
  • Sketches
  • Part Design.
  • Assembly Design.
  • We switched from AutoCAD to Solid Edge because they still offer perpetual licenses.
  • The API and the Documentation are good enough to develop new company-specific features.
  • If you use the API capabilities, Solid Edge is less stable then needed (Access Violation Errors, etc. )
FreeCAD is often better than Solid Edge 2021 when converting files, but I hope this changes with 2023 NX is overall more powerful, but that is to be expected (and you cant add it above because it is too short for whatever reason).

Do you think Solid Edge delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Solid Edge's feature set?

Yes

Did Solid Edge live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Solid Edge go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Solid Edge again?

Yes

For simple steel construction, it is great. When you want to do other stuff like electrical wiring, factory planning, etc. it's not great, and the solution you can buy does not fit our needs so we need to develop our own.
