Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use it in the School of Nursing for tracking student hours, the nursing clinical skills practicum courses, skills lab practice hours, and time spent in the simulation labs.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Easy and intuitive interface for students and visitors to log in.
Data is downloadable to CVS format.

Cons

I had difficulty scheduling training with support due to time zone differences.
I need more customizable pages for types of visitors and reasons for visit which open to pages specific for those types.

Return on Investment

It is easier for students to use than our previous solutions which included paper signins that had to be transcribed into a spreadsheet and a custom webbased interface that we (the immediate admins) could not readily customize.
Data capture is about the same percentages, but we are more confident that the data is more accurate due to ease of use and not transcription errors.

We haven't used other commercial products. We have used a custom web-base interface that was limited in customizablity and data filtering. We also used paper sign-ins that had to be transcribed. SwipedOn is a improvement from both of those in that it is more customizable for a admin user and is easy for the students to use, so it seems to be increasing the the precentage of students who sign in and accuracy of the collected data.

Support Rating

It works well for what we want but we could use more training and realtime support on creating the custom login pages.

The main issue I have had is in the customization after the first login page. I would like to be able to customize subsequent pages by each type of visitor (student, employee, guest, etc) wherein based on their visitor type, they are presented different options that open below or on subsequent pages. For example, if a student is checking in for a skills practicum course, they should be sent to a page where they can choose from a pre-set list of available courses, then when they select the course, they then see a list of the instructors for only that course. An employee, however, would not necessarily see all of those options or might see them in a different order.
