Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Spotfire is being used by multiple departments within FedEx companies. It is an easy tool to analyze data, and slice and dice it in multiple ways. We perform statistical analysis for both strategic and tactical projects. We analyze in memory live data for tactical analysis, historical data for trend and strategic analysis.

Pros and Cons

Easy to connect multiple sources and visualize data. Slice and dice as you go.

Lack of easy language to customize reports. You have to use python and java which are not easy to learn for someone new to Spotfire.
Hard to change sources, reports. Very easy for initial development but maintenance is cumbersome.

Best scenarios - trend analysis, Pareto charts, outliers and a long list of analytic tools. The separation between development and usage with a web server. It is hard and slow to analyze big data because of hardware and software limitations. In any case, I have found Spotfire very useful in my professional career.
