Overall Satisfaction with Upland Mobile Messaging

We run a few statewide educational programs on health topics, such as smoking cessation for pregnant women and their family members, chronic disease prevention, breastfeeding, etc. More and more researchers have proven that texting has been effective in health management and it tends to facilitate a more honest and nonjudgmental conversation with its participants. That's what got us started using these texting programs with Upland.
  • Customer service. You have your own point of contact. They are very supportive and helpful. They always respond quickly.
  • Their deep non-profit discount.
  • Their message schedules. Very flexible and it can be a relative schedule to say a pregnant woman's due date and someone's goal date for quit smoking, etc.
  • Creating a campaign by coping from another - so far that's not possible.
  • When you have more than 10 pages of messages to edit, you are not allowed to jump to a specific page. You have to click the arrow until you are that page. When you finish editing a certain message, it always brings you back to the very first page. Very annoying. We voice that many times but it has never been changed.
  • Downloading reports only works with Google Chrome. However, when you try to open their website on Google Chrome, it won't let you because of some security certificate issue.
  • It allows us to outreach to populations that are sometimes hard to reach with traditional programs.
  • The automatic messages allow staff to use their time for other programs.
  • SMS magic
We had EZTexting before. They don't have relative scheduling message so we had to switch to another vendor. We checked into SMS Magic, but they were not very responsive to our sales inquiry and then we received some phone call from India from someone who's very hard to communicate with.
From our experience, it seems to be a very effective tool reaching out to the younger population for educational purposes. However, it seems to get a better reply rate with the older population.
