Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform

We use Veeam Data Platform to help us with our backup and security strategies. With recent updates and new features like immutability backups, Veeam Data Platform is not just a backup application. Still, it is a security application that helps us maintain our data and infrastructure safe against threats and malicious agents.
  • Virtualized workloads
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
  • In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
  • NAS filers
  • In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
  • License portability as your environment needs change
  • Utilizing backup copies for secondary purposes via DataLabs
  • Automating test restores to validate recoverability
  • Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
  • “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
  • Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
  • Using immutability repositories
  • Easy to use backup copy jobs
  • Backup jobs using Cloud repositories, like AWS S3 buckets
  • Some improvements using DataLabs. There are some issues when using resources outside the Veeam backup network (remote site for example).

Do you think Veeam Data Platform delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Veeam Data Platform's feature set?

Yes

Did Veeam Data Platform live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Veeam Data Platform go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Veeam Data Platform again?

Yes

Currently, we have 63 on-premises VMS, 4 physical on-premises servers, and 10 CLOUD VMS protected by Veeam. Our first Veeam license was an Essentials license, based on VM count we had at the moment (Essentials were licensed based on CPU cores). Our environment has grown, so we had to upgrade Veeam license. Now we have an ENTERPRISE PLUS subscription and works like a charm for us.
  • POSITIVE: Return on Investment (less human resources to manage backup and lower costs with backup application)
  • POSITIVE: Increase on reliability in secure data and workloads
Our triggering action was using a backup application that was good enough to make backups to disks. Our last backup application only uses backup to tape option. Before Veeam, our backups jobs were extremely slow. We made just a night backup (outside our operational window) that were a 10, 12-hour backup job. With Veeam, backups are made in an hour or so. And we can now have backups running during the day without any impact in our environment.
Using cloud repositories, like AWS S3 buckets, had a great impact on us. Using this feature, it was possible to have another place (a secure one) to maintain our backup objects.
We don't use those features, yet.
The most use Veeam backup capability here in our environment is to protect our workloads and data in backup repositories with immutability. This feature helps us a lot to maintain a secure environment against threats like ransomware. Recovery capabilities: There are a lot of ways to recover data and workloads, like using instant recovery (for VMS, Database Servers, NAS...).
