Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform

I think Veeam Data Platform is awesome for Virtual Server Backups, Physical Server backups and also MS o365 backups. Veeam Data Platform helps us move servers from virtual hosts, restore files, whole Virtual Machines reliably and quickly. Instant Virtual Server restore is a life saver when a windows patch prevents a system booting, or some software upgrade goes very wrong (and you didn't snapshot a vm in VmWare). We also use vCenter essentials, so we do not have live migrations; Veeam Data Platform definitely helps us here by allowing us to move servers around. We also started using Veeam o365 backup for more than just our sharepoint repositories. Now that we finally moved to hosted o365 email we can back that up as well with Veeam Data Platform. We also added in a rotating backup for offline backups as a just in case last resort restore option. It was simple for us to just add the offline rotating backup to our backup plan.
  • Virtualized workloads
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
  • Enterprise UNIX servers running Solaris & IBM AIX
  • Enterprise applications such as Oracle or SAP HANA
  • Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
  • NAS filers
  • In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
  • License portability as your environment needs change
  • Utilizing backup copies for secondary purposes via DataLabs
  • Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
  • Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
  • Instant VM Restore is the most clutch feature.
  • Offline rotating drive consolidated from normal backups is great.
  • o365 Cloud App account backups is a very nice feature
  • More of an environment issue, but better support for sizing and speed problems.
  • Live migrations status bars...seems like the final 1 to 2% functions take the longest as I watch for them to finish. I know the step we are at, but it takes so long as you are waiting for the last bit to complete (VM RAM and system state) . I know they do not know the exact sizing, and it is the last 1 step of the 99 it did, but I get antsy

Do you think Veeam Data Platform delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Veeam Data Platform's feature set?

Yes

Did Veeam Data Platform live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Veeam Data Platform go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Veeam Data Platform again?

Yes

It is what I expected. We had been using network backup products before Veeam Data Platform, and the Veeam Data Platform price point came in lower, and did lots more.
  • Less downtime
  • Reliable backup is priceless
  • VM live migration moves of a VM with vmware base license
Older network backup software was running slow and slowing down clients. The old vendors software version removed 2 features we liked and the price had increased.
We are not really running hybrid. The DR (disaster recovery) features are all built into Veeam Data Platform if you need a DR site though. I have not tried any of the Cloud VM options.
I use it for Virtual Servers and also a physical server, and a hyrbid backup of a specific location (folder) in a VM like a physical server. The physical agent method isn't the most intuitive, but definitely doable. Agent updates and version issues sometimes arise, and was simple to fix 2 of the 3 times it was an issue.
