Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform

Here we use Veeam to give us a powerful backup solution. We utilize an on-premises solution and also have Azure backups through Veeam. This product is quite amazing and allows you to have peace of mind within your organization. I have roughly 30 something VM's that are backed up nightly and never have issues with this product. I came from a few other environments where I had hundreds of VM's and multiple locations all with Veeam. It was fun to learn and see how it scales at that size. I'm fairly confident that this product can scale to any size company with great efficiency. I even use it at home in my own lab environment and it works amazing there as well. Granted I have expensive hardware tossed at it, but either way, this is one awesome product. Recommend to everyone in need of a backup solution. If you are broke, they have a community edition you can use for 10 machines at the least! Couldn't ask for a better product.
  • Virtualized workloads
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • NAS filers
  • In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
  • In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
  • Enterprise UNIX servers running Solaris & IBM AIX
  • Enterprise applications such as Oracle or SAP HANA
  • Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
  • Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
  • Utilizing backup copies for secondary purposes via DataLabs
  • Automating test restores to validate recoverability
  • Integration with cyber-security tools for SecureRestore
  • “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
  • Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
  • Scales to any size environment.
  • Works with almost any network or cloud device.
  • Allows many levels of automation.
  • Gives an organization peace of mind that their stuff works.
  • Amazing customer support.
  • Crushes every product out there for backups. There IS nothing better.
  • Sometimes different backup methods using different tiers can be challenging. Typically have to work with support on that as the documentation is pretty good, but it's also too much at times. I think they'd do better if they did more visual examples. It's their product, they'd benefit.
  • Every now and then it doesn't clean snapshots from VMware and then keeps creating them until you can't anymore. I would highly suggest they work right with VMware to fix that. Been a problem for long enough.
  • The last area Veeam can improve is being able to cook and clean for me. If Veeam could do that, I surely wouldn't need to waste my money on an expensive wife and kids.. Those things are overrated anyway, all they do is eat your food and complain. Veeam could definitely beat that if it made food, just sayin..

200ish roughly endpoints I manage at this current location. We don't plan to add much more but we do plan to add some in the coming year. This is around where we anticipated as we knew what our growth was going to look like. This company isn't big enough for this to be a challenge yet. Veeam works wonderfully here and is easy to manage.
  • Saved company during hardware failure
  • Gave us the ability to push backups to Azure
  • Gave us a second layer of backups to keep us protected better
This company did not have Veeam before my manager was here. He, like myself, has worked with Veeam for years. It wasn't even a question of what to use or why, it was a direct push to get Veeam from day one. There is no other backup product that works as well in our eyes.
We use Veeam to give us the ability to do Azure backups, which has been awesome. Had hardware failure once and it made it cake to get it all back up once it was swapped. Everything has been smooth since Veeam has been in place. Without it, we may have been searching for data recovery experts to help.
Allows us to handle files and manage them a little better. Less stuff needed for it so it helps out for sure. Personally I think file sharing is obsolete though. Onedrive/sharepoint are much better options in the end, but hey it works for now. I think Veeam would be wise to figure out some tie in there.
I worked for a publicly traded company and they didn't have ANYTHING for backups. I was blown away and could not believe that. All they did was take manual, not even automated, snapshots in their AWS tenants and Azure tenants. This company literally had themselves in the worst spot ever if they got hit with an attack. This was one company that could have greatly benefitted from Veeam. I tried to push it to them, but ultimately I ended up leaving as there was too much else not right there..
