We use it to backup Vmware vm's. Works like a charm. Even have it on a few physical boxes and works great.

It was hundreds of vm's and other servers. But since consolidation, Commvault was already utilized heavily and the consolidated agencies were and are being migrated to Commvault. But I used Veeam exclusively for vm backups while at another agency and would not hesitate to use it again. It's definitely simpler than Commvault.
- not sure. The product does what we need it to do and the price was reasonable at least a few years ago. I've heard it's getting more expensive.
As our vm environment grew we needed a solid product to backup the environment. Veeam at the time was that top product. It's progressed over the years. It definitely makes backing up the vmware vm's quite simple.
