Vertex Indirect Tax O Series

Overall Satisfaction with Vertex

Vertex O Series is used across the whole organization. It interfaces with SAP for adding sales tax to quotes, sales orders, invoices, both in the US and Canada. It also connects on the procurement side for calculation of tax on purchase orders and invoices, and self-assessment tax where needed.
  • It can identify when a sale is to a city within or outside of city limits. The catch is that the 9 digit zip code is needed.
  • I am looking forward to migrating onto the next version of Vertex O Series, at this point we plan on using Vertex product mapping. At the time we implemented many years ago, we did not agree with the taxing in some of the states but it was an all or nothing proposition. Now I understand we can override the state taxing we may not agree with.
  • Vertex handles the volume of transactions and makes life easier each month by being able to simply export the export return file for upload into the Vertex return software.
  • The issues I have concerns about are not VERTEX, but SAP related. I would like to have tax only credits, but I am told SAP is not able to handle [them].
  • Clearly positive, we could not process the volume without it. I manage 7 legal entities all with anywhere from 10 to 30 states for filing. The job is not possible without the software.
The only other product I currently work on is Avalara AvaTax.
  • We have SAP integrated with Vertex
  • We are currently using Avalara Cert Capture that is integrated with Vertex
The SAP integration was many years ago, however, I don't remember it being that difficult, I had a Vertex background. (SAP was the challenge then). The Cert capture integration took about 6 months, and again the issues were not on the Vertex side but the Avalara side.

It depends on the topic. I have had great success with issues regarding the US.

I had a bad experience on issues regarding Canada. It was well over a month before I received a response.

So now with the Wayfair decision, we have reviewed the many states we need to register in. It will be a simile flipping the switch for the taxing to begin. Yes I need to be considerate with my work to ensure I turn the clock back to the appropriate date to ensure we capture our backlog. The more time-consuming task is the registrations that need to be accomplished due to Wayfair.
I would not change. I have been at FLIR for 18 years, and I was hired because of my Vertex background. FLIR had already purchased the product and brought me on to implement it. My Vertex background was with a legacy software I remember one of the names being Q. I work on a Vertex legacy associated with a BPCS ERP system.
Vertex handles the states well that we find to be so time-consuming - Colorado, Alabama, and Louisiana. It accurately calculates locals once the proper setup is determined.
