Adaptive Insights

Adaptive is great if you want to create many what- if scenarios when budgeting and forecasting. Staffing scenarios has been particularly helpful for our HR department when analyze staff needs for future years and analyzing open and unfilled positions over a certain time frame.

Every so often Adaptive's response time when in the system has been slow but Adaptive has rolled out the Elastic Hypercube to take care of that issue.

  • Web-based system which eliminates the need to purchase new software. System is accessible anywhere as long as there is internet access.
  • Its features provide for good planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • The ability to create customized reports is a very nice touch - we are able to share this across our organization.

Cons

  • The layout of the various reporting options could be displayed in a more user-friendlier way. It's a bit difficult to locate where to find the reports.
  • I'm finding that the drill down feature from the monthly financials section is not as convenient as it should be.
  • The exporting to Excel or PDF format is a bit off - it's time consuming to manipulate the excel to a regular paper size.

  • Cost is always an element to consider when purchasing a computer solution, both for the purchase of the software and for its maintenance, many forget about the ongoing support costs that come with software.
  • Many systems are backed up automatically through the cloud or through some other solution, but not all. So there is a good chance that the data will be lost. it is therefore necessary to take the safe backup forecasts in the event of any unforeseen occurrence and cause us an unpleasant surprise.
  • There is a difference between being served by a real person when making a phone call, to an automated attention system. Sometimes it is good to make the tasks more automatic, but it is also good to have a little personalized help to avoid losing the human value of relationships.

Although having a set of spreadsheet and workbooks helps to define the logic and processes, preparing a requirements document is also an important element in a successful implementation. In addition, dedicating a knowledgeable user as part of the "Scrum" development allows focus and permits the implementation to proceed without time loss and promotes knowledge transfer. Finally, having an onsite developer speeds the process and can reduce the overall cost as well.

Breadth of Deployment

It is used throughout the company in different divisions and at our corporate level. When used in a division recently the personnel from different departments directly inputted data and monitored their budget against actual. It is very user friendly and flexible.

Alternatives Considered

We had meetings with several industry leaders and Adaptive was our choice in the end. We liked IBM and also liked Host Analytics for different reasons. In the end it was the combination of cloud, Excel add-in, Office Connect, Discovery, and cost that would ultimately end up with Adaptive. I've used a few similar BI products and it has become my tool of preference. One of the best things about Adaptive is that they are committed to being the best, and to do that they must evolve and enhance the products different modules, I have seen many updates while using the product and I can say that they are making impressive enhancements on a regular basis. I'm very excited to see where they will be in another year.

Sales management is based on the management of customer relationships and must be centralized so that its analysis is effective. The data that is collected must be available for the generation of statistics for decision making by the directory. This tool allows us to generate the necessary data to generate results, save time and production cost. The other products did not fit our objectives.

Return on Investment

  • Staffing. Almost certain we would have had to hire a full-time budget analyst to process budgets pre-Adaptive. Savings in labor for salary and benefits is about $150 k annually.
  • Quicker ability to report and complete the budget process. Before Adaptive, the budget process took about 4 months. We have shrunk the time required to about 3 months with additional time now for analysis.
  • What if reporting. Nice to see the impact of changes in the budget with a quick turn around time to report.
