Allscripts Professional EHR

Some of the key questions include functionality of the EHR in today's electronic marketplace. Also customer support ratings are important due to many ongoing difficulties previously experienced with older EHRs. Allscripts is well suited to the outpatient setting where many preformed templates provide a comprehensive overview of patients. Additionally, Allscripts' link with the imaging portal PACS is second to none.

Epic Cadence

Cadence Enterprise Scheduling is particularly useful in a multiple provider, multiple location scenario. It is also quite useful in situations where there are multiple rooms or pieces of equipment that need to be scheduled.

Pros

  • Organized documentation templates specifically for new and established patient visits.
  • Amazing customer service with real-time solutions and impressive follow-up time intervals along with friendly and knowledgeable support technicians.
  • Exceptional billing module with exceeds the current industry standard.

  • Cadence is particularly good at scheduling. It is a simple interface that allows a provider to have a diverse schedule while making sure that patients are seen at the appropriate times.
  • Mistakes are minimized through a series of schedule locks and customizations.
  • Cadence really shines in complex scheduling scenarios allowing a user to schedule a patient with multiple providers while making sure those providers are available.

Cons

  • Documenting lab or imaging results are clunky. Without an interface, we scan in labs and imaging. There is a small, unobvious place to make a note in response to the results but then another patient message needs to be sent to the nursing staff explaining these results again with instructions on what to tell the patient.
  • You cannot build a chart the day before or print out any paperwork (i.e. consents for procedures) until the day of the appointment or it gets dated for the date you opened the chart, not the actual date of encounter
  • While there are so many things you can customize, it gets burdensome at times. You really need to have a superuser on staff to remember how everything gets customized. The customization is not intuitive.

  • Faster for users with keyboard only access if preferred.
  • Overall faster performance of system interface access.
  • Web-based application with full features.

As stated earlier, it seems to be the best out there, from a built perspective as well as a user application. While some practices feel it to be time consuming (Cadence/Prelude) together others who see the whole integration thru the Epicare and Resolute systems love it. From an IT perspective, while sometimes cumbersome to build, the end results are pleasing and satisfying. We can usually accomplish what we set out to do with the practice vision in mind.

EPIC has been great in their support and communication at all hours. They also openly communicate when an application TS (Technical Support) will be away and who is covering for that person. During standard non working hours - you always know what number and who to call to get resolution to issues that arise at those times

Alternatives Considered

We selected Allscripts primarily for its exceptional reviews and affordability in the EHR marketplace. While Allscripts may not be the best EHR overall, it definitely meets the demands of the seting I practice in. Allscripts is an innovative software and we are pleased to have chosen this EHR for our group

Cadence is much better than some of the other either text based, or web based solutions out there. Cadence should be used as part of the complete Epic Enterprise package to enjoy the cost benefits of a fully integrated system that maintains the entire Patient Access flow within one system.
