Experience testing. We have many many many forms that require the user step thru certain sequences to get to specific places to enter in the information. Once achieved, the user must use that information to perform other actions that must be frequently tested for response time and information accuracy. Once the first several forms are completed, they will in turn effect the outcome of the other actions. CP allows us to test each step of the experience and allows us to focus on specific actions and results. CP is not well suited to test environments that are ever changing as it is not as modularized as it can be. In environments that constantly change, it is difficult to keep CP up to date.

For either DB2 or zLinux, Tivoli is hands-down the best solution. For Oracle and other operating systems, there are more advanced solutions available. Some of these features are considered "game-changing" by our Sys Admins. Of the three solutions I've dealt with, Tivoli ranks right in the middle with cost, features, and complexity. A nice solution (and the best for the options I listed above), but not cutting-edge.

Cons
Catchpoint
- Adding an endpoint to be monitored requires a lot of steps (since there are a lot of functions and features). A quick-add feature would be nice. If the settings are similar, the interface allows you to duplicate an existing setup and tweak the settings.

- Tivoli is not manageable from the GUI console and I believe it needs a dedicated resource to manage the software.
- Tivoli (TSM) configuration is complex, granular, and scalable with customizable configuration features, but it requires a good administrator that has a strong knowledge of the product.
- It needs additional agents or plugins for administration; for example, I have to use an MMC plug-in on the servers.

It's hard to find the functionalities that I am looking for in the application. Even if I did something in the past, after a time I have to re-learn again where the functionalities are. This is a powerful tool, but not user-friendly. Texts in the buttons and menus are not always meaningful or easily comprehensible.

I have supported 20-30 different vendor tools in my career and Catchpoint, by far, has the best customer service that I have ever experienced. They are very responsive and thoroughly track and provide visibility on progress. Their level one resources are generally very knowledgeable. Also, support is more than happy to join bridge calls to help troubleshoot application issues if requested. Finally, the scope of service provided by support is not just typical support activities - they will also help in creating new monitors, providing training/education, etc... I am extremely happy with Catchpoint support!

Catchpoint
Primary reason we went with Catchpoint is that they offered us actual backbone testing locations. All the other features like a filmstrip and traceroutes have been very beneficial as well and were not available in the competitors' solutions.

- The ROI has been very good with this product, we have seen multiple folds of time-saving by using this tool and preempting any risk associated with non-performant times of our server, hence increasing the team's capability to respond to certain downtime scenarios and the level of action that needs to be taken.
- Catchpoint’s observability solution makes it easier to have global visibility of our website's performance and to fix issues quicker
- I don't have any negatives, every good product comes with a cost, that is the fact but the Catchpoint tool has ultimately improved our ROI much beyond the changes that we pay
