Cisco Aironet 1540 Series Access Points

If you want an enterprise wireless network Cisco might not be the de-facto standard (as they are in wired networking equipment) but they are a strong contender. If you are a small company Cisco might not be the first to go to, but definitely give it a good look. Prepare by doing some measurements in your building.

Cons

Cisco Aironet 1540 Series Access Points

  • At one point we did have stability issues on some devices but that was solved by rebooting. Strangely most devices than work for months.
  • Price is a bit high.

Fortinet Wireless LAN

  • In the web portal, it would be nice if you could create a customer, assign that customer all the devices in the solution, and have a single pane glass to manage them all. Right now you need to access different web links to manage the devices.
  • The security feature set could be a bit more sophistication, like an Arista AP which polices the air.

As that part of the company is a Cisco Oriented company, it was the best way to go. We did look at other products but were happy to add them to our contact with Cisco equipment and services.

Fortinet Wireless LAN

As far as features, Fortinet has them all. When compared to Meraki and WatchGuard, it comes out miles ahead. The biggest difference is price. You pay less for the Fortinet, but you do not lose the features you need to have a great solution.
