Cisco CloudCenter (formerly CliQr)

I would definitely recommend CloudCenter due to its wide extensibility. I am able to extend and deploy our system in all four following ways; content integration, tool integration, platform integration, and most importantly cloud integration. Content extensibility allows deploying containers such as Docker, while tool integration allows me to integrate the most important security components such as HSM.

MongoDB

MongoDB is well suited to sensitive data issues due to its sophisticated security controls and advanced functionality. It is also well suited to mission critical tasks due to its high availability from geographically distributed fault tolerance.
It is probably less suited for less mission critical applications due to the amount of data it stores as this could be an extra cost to the organisation and could possibly implement a cheaper tool.

Pros

Cisco CloudCenter (formerly CliQr)

  • We are able to automate deployment which has been a strength to the geographical distribution of the enterprise.
  • We have been able to work with a wider variety of developer tools and haven't had to customize to fit CloudCenter.
  • It is easier for us to allocate space and allow users to take advantage of the system directly with a minimum of overhead.

MongoDB

  • Being a JSON language optimizes the response time of a query, you can directly build a query logic from the same service
  • You can install a local, database-based environment rather than the non-relational real-time bases such a firebase does not allow, the local environment is paramount since you can work without relying on the internet.
  • Forming collections in Mango is relatively simple, you do not need to know of query to work with it, since it has a simple graphic environment that allows you to manage databases for those who are not experts in console management.

Cons

Cisco CloudCenter (formerly CliQr)

  • Post-purchase support needs to be improved, it takes ages to solve a problem.

MongoDB

  • An aggregate pipeline can be a bit overwhelming as a newcomer.
  • There's still no real concept of joins with references/foreign keys, although the aggregate framework has a feature that is close.
  • Database management/dev ops can still be time-consuming if rolling your own deployments. (Thankfully there are plenty of providers like Compose or even MongoDB's own Atlas that helps take care of the nitty-gritty.

I am looking forward to increasing our SaaS subscriptions such that I get to experience global replica sets, working in reads from secondaries, and what not. Can't wait to be able to exploit some of the power that the "Big Boys" use MongoDB for.

NoSQL database systems such as MongoDB lack graphical interfaces by default and therefore to improve usability it is necessary to install third-party applications to see more visually the schemas and stored documents. In addition, these tools also allow us to visualize the commands to be executed for each operation.

The support is generally quite good for the solution. It allows you to modify a support plan and enable you to bring in a different plan for your different needs.
This can be broken into: Developer, Pro, and Enterprise.Using Pro we have SLAs in place as we work on big systems which would bring severe consequences if there is downtime.

While the setup and configuration of MongoDB is pretty straight forward, having a vendor that performs automatic backups and scales the cluster automatically is very convenient. If you do not have a system administrator or DBA familiar with MongoDB on hand, it's a very good idea to use a 3rd party vendor that specializes in MongoDB hosting. The value is very well worth it over hosting it yourself since the cost is often reasonable among providers.

Alternatives Considered

Cisco CloudCenter (formerly CliQr)

We found that the cost advantages were greater by going with Cisco because of our present contracts and the materials and equipment we already had on hand. The reliability of the system, for us, outweighed any cost advantages we might have been realized by going with another provider. Certainly the service and support for the entire system is much better when handled by a single vendor with a good track record.

MongoDB

MongoDB was the most full-featured NoSQL database we evaluated - that offered atomic transactions at a document level, built-in HA & DR, open source, robust queries, and enterprise level support.Other platforms had specific parts of what we were looking for - MongoDB had it all.

Return on Investment

Cisco CloudCenter (formerly CliQr)

  • Improved visibility on the cloud components of the company backbone.
  • Less response time from server to employee which is good.

MongoDB

  • Much faster development time.
  • Price is fantastic compared to MSSQL when you consider OS costs and the entire package.
  • Only negative to me is the lack of DBA skills for it, due to it being a new player in the field. I feel like that will get better as time moves on however.
