Currently, Board is used to propose navigable standard dashboards to the company management. By company management, I mean the Board of Directors, the district managers (in reference to the distribution of our branches in the area), and the division managers (in reference to the specialization sectors of our operators). The information that is proposed concerns sales, customer orders, supplier orders, purchases, the warehouse, holidays for employees, and credit control.
  • The first strong point is in the management of the dates, intended as comparisons between dates of different years.
  • The second strong point is data navigability (Drill).
  • The third strong point is the possibility of having users customize those reports and charts which they must access more frequently.
  • The definition of the time frame present in the different databases can be improved. It is not possible to move the initial year once entered, except through the intervention of a technician.
  • The display performance of the reports can be improved; in databases that have a lot of data and many dimensions of analysis (i.e. entities defined in cubes), there are significant performance decays.
  • The other parts that can be improved concern the implementation part of the cubes and entities present in the databases: they do not follow the rules of relational databases and do not have precise logic.
  • The creation of dashboards/graphics is not as immediate as some competitors (see Qlik, Infragistic Reveal, Analisys Services) in the sense that, without a course, one cannot achieve it independently.
Board is a good BI tool on the user side. I currently use version 10.1.2 and we have version 10.6 in the test environment (similar to 11.2 according to the technician) and in the latter there are significant improvements in terms of product performance and flexibility (having switched to HTML5 it is now compatible with all platforms). A decidedly negative point is the fact of having to rewrite practically what has already been developed to move on to the next versions in order to take advantage of the performance of the new database. I wonder: since they were the source and destination engines, why didn't they produce a conversion tool? There was the same problem from version 6 to version 7, while from 7 to 8 and from 8 to 10 we had to review all the capsules: is it possible to have to reinvest each time to review the same things in the same way?

  • The distribution of certified data allowed a more immediate comparison without preliminary discussions on the veracity of the data.
  • Board allowed a simple approach to data navigation, increasing the use of the BI tool.
In truth, Board was not selected in place of the others. Board is the historical BI tool alongside Microsoft Analysis Services. As for Qlik Sense, it was purchased with 10 server version licenses to be able to support and possibly replace the Board because of the performance that should be better for the same size and analysis measures. As for Infragistic Reveal it will probably be the tool that allows you to distribute simpler business reports to a larger number of users: the sales force. This is because Reveal has an unquestionably more accessible cost/user for a large number of users both compared to Board and Qlik and, nonetheless, it connects directly to the Microsoft Analysis Services environment from which it inherits user profiling.
Reveal, Qlik Sense

They are the BoD, the heads of the commercial districts, the heads of the divisions and the administrative heads. The district managers supervise the stores and agents that cover the territory. The division managers oversee the technicians and salespeople who cover certain product sectors (such as automation, home automation, industrial plants, civil plants, alternative energy etc ...).

An AD that deals with identifying the dashboards to be implemented, checks them and explains the results to other users. A developer (me) who monitors and corrects any problems that may occur, also taking advantage of the Board assistance service and / or the partner companies that have followed the development.
  • Sales and customer orders
  • Purchases and supplier orders
  • Credit and staff management
  • The ability to navigate in nightmares by literally immersing yourself in the details of the data
  • The possibility of creating prospectuses extracted from the capsules for immediate data
  • The ability to compare different periods in a rather simple way.
  • Take advantage of access to the Server Board from each platform using the html5 base of the new version 11.2
Overall Board is a good BI tool. Once the nightmares, the entities, the procedures that feed the internal database and the institutional dashboards have been created, the use remains fairly simple even for less experienced users (who can have problems only for the printing phase, which is not very intuitive).

It was not I who decided to buy Board. He was already present in the company when I was hired in 2012. They then instructed me to deal with it from 2013 onwards along with all the rest of the products we use in BI. I met Board after the transition from version 6 to version 7 was made (it was not painless). Speaking with the administrator, I learned that the choice had been made towards Board because in that period it was one of the products that boasted the best specifications, brochures and graphics, and had a good reputation among users who used it in other companies. After the choice, investments were made which proceeded with the development through this product.

Today, after 7 years of experience, you have a different view of BI tools. There are certainly more inputs, also from other users, which concern the pros and cons of each instrument. Even reviews made by professionals through the sites have their importance, since they are the result of experience, often years, of the problems they find.

  • Third-party professional services
The Board project was developed in collaboration with Orange Company (Perugia branch). The first development was made before 2012 with the version of Board 6. Subsequently, the update was made to version 7, then also to version 8, always by the same company. At the same time as the transition to version 7, databases and capsules (brochures) were revised. The transition from version 8 to 10.1.2 was carried out with the support of a Novidis technician from San Benedetto del Tronto (AP) who allowed us to have a lower impact on the usual migration problems. Today we always turn to Novidis for any type of problem.
No
Change management was minimal
No substantial changes occurred as those who were able to use Board already had experience with the same data on Excel reports linked to the cubes of Microsoft Analysis Services. Surely the convenience of always having self-updating brochures, not having to intervene on the dates for comparisons and having all the main indicators and values in a single screen, have brought significant advantages. In this phase, users were equipped with 27 "/ 32" monitors with 2K resolution, in order to have complete (or almost) complete control of the company in a single dashboard.
  • The main problem was user profiling
  • Another problem was the limitation of the dimensions (or entities) present in the individual Board info-cubes with respect to the analysis dimensions of the cubes present in the Microsoft Analysis Services environment.
  • Another problem was to make people understand the different ways of implementing sales data
The problem of user profiling in our context is certainly quite complex. The complexity is given by the fact that the company is divided territorially into logistic points of sale, but at the same time they are virtually divided into divisions (or specific implementation areas) and points of sale of competence. The same operator can have access to data at different logistic sales points, sales points of competence and divisions.
The only time I needed assistance was due to a problem in the prints: the colors of the brochures as they were on the screen were not reproduced in the print, but a series of standard colors were reproduced. This fact made colored numbers on a colored background illegible. From the assistance they confirmed that it was a problem of version 10.2 that occurred when leaving the brochures with the default colors proposed by Board. To obtain the desired colors, they had to be personalized ... I didn't like the solution very much and the technician who recommended it didn't like me either, but they would have solved the problem with the following versions. In any case, the assistance was quick and effective even if not exactly efficient.

Yes, but I don't use it
From a user perspective, Board is quite simple to use. You can evaluate the presentation of the data, the navigation, the configuration of the users, the selection of the data etc ... It would have a better rating if it were even more intuitive as regards the construction of a project, starting from the database, to the info-cubes, to entities, to data acquisition procedures from other servers.

BOARD is used primarily as a tool for P&L reporting and maintaining budget and forecast data. We also use it for some operational reporting and business planning (demand planning, census, etc).
  • BOARD is extremely flexible, you can structure your data and hierarchies however you like.
  • User-friendly: It's easy to bring new users up to speed quickly on their desktop and web client.
  • Hierarchy management. While hierarchies are extremely flexible, the tools to manage them are occasionally frustrating, you can't always sort by all headings.
  • Exporting and printing layouts and reports can be frustrating. In most cases, it's easier to export to Excel and then format in Excel vs. trying to print directly from BOARD.
BOARD is well suited when you want a solution that can work across a variety of use cases. It can be used for financial reports, planning, project tracking, and as a BI tool. It's a user-friendly solution that both beginners and power users can work with. Because of its flexibility, it's not well suited as an "off the shelf" solution. You will need to build frameworks for the solutions you require.

  • BOARD has allowed us to automate publishing monthly results to business partners. They can see their financial results without waiting for a batch to run or for partners to publish them via email. Thanks to robust security settings, Finance can ensure partners only have access to their departmental numbers.
  • BOARD has allowed us to move to a web-based forecasting/budgeting tool where we can move away from spreadsheets and into a live-entry model. It's eliminated versioning errors that can creep in when spreadsheet models are being traded back and forth.
Board had a very robust solution at a reasonable price when we were looking at moving away from a sunsetted version of our previous tool. It gave us the ability to quickly implement with our ledger system and the flexibility to develop additional solutions after the implementation.
  • Drill down to more detailed layers of information/data
  • User security controls
  • manipulation of cube outputs
  • Hierarchy management
  • error troubleshooting in excel add-in
Yes, but I don't use it
Overall, Board is easy to use and develop for. Users can quickly get up to speed and begin using with only a small amount of training. Generally, it takes longer to explain the data structure (our customization) than it does to explain the tool itself.

The most consistent challenge we run into is hierarchy management. New members have to be mapped to each level of an entity. While there is a "normalization" process, it often fails to map correctly or in rare cases can change custom mapping that was previously set up.

BOARD as the name suggests is a blank canvas. One can use it for traditional BI/MI reporting or to implement workflow driven corporate performance management. Here at L&Q we have been using it for a number of years primarily for our BI needs. However, recently we have started realizing its true potential with its CPM capabilities.
  • Easy to use procedures for workflow implementation.
  • Quick rollout time.
  • Attractive looking dashboards.
  • Smaller community compared to competition.
  • ETL function is not as strong as compared to other tools.
  1. BOARD is amazing for Planning, Budgeting and Forecasting.
  2. Implementing and managing scenario based calculations.
  3. Quick and easy to manage dashboards.
  4. Web and mobile capabilities.

  • BOARD has played a vital role in automation within our organisation. All our stat accounts and management accounts are fully automated.
  • Helped business to move away from multiple spreadsheet culture to a single version of truth.
All systems offer few things that may or may not be unique to them. Opting for a solution is based on multiple factors, for us it was speedy development and rollout.

  • Bespoke app development: Used for quick POC development
  • Pushing entire architechture to cloud based solution
Board is a fantastic product for swift BI solution delivery when compared with its peers. Ease of use, support and integration with Microsoft Office Addin open a wide horizon of opportunities for further enhancements to solutions. Easy bespoke app development capabilities make it a winner for us. BOARD is just like a white canvas, it lets you explore your creative side while designing and delivering a solution.
Yes
Originally BOARD was selected for its BI capabilities replacing SSRS and CorVU. CorVu was very clunky and tricky to use and required indepth L&D before any development and SSRS is very old tech and primarily useful for doing quick MI reports. Report and Dashboards created on SSRS lacked the wow factor and self-serving.

Product Usability was the key factor for us while making our choice. Its easy and rapid deployment was the key selling point on a very short notice vendor was able to produce a POC for key bottlenecks faced at the time.
Considering technology is rapidly evolving, we would like to explore more on Big data capabilities and compare with peers. We would be more interest in future ideas vendors have for their product and how can we leverage those ideas to meet operational excellence in our wor stream.

  • Business providing clearly defined user stories to support development
At the time-limited user base or community did affect our development to some extent. Since we were learning while developing there are areas we could address to improve on performance.
  • in-person training
  • no training
Board is fairly simple and straight forward. Advance training on workflows and procedures is a good one but the training content only touches through the interesting areas. training content needs to cover a few areas more in-depth.
Learning Board is straight forward. I would recommend developing a BI solution for a start this should cover the majority of features on offer. Consider using Boards knowledge base and BOARD community for discussing question and ideas with other users.
Overall support from BOARD has been great so far. New version rollout or usual technical assistance board support team has been swift and helpful.
No
Being an early adopter has its own pros and cons. BOARD was exceptionally supportive of sharing ideas while initial development. For a brief initial period, we were provided with an inhouse consultant to advise and assist with the development.

BOARD is used by management, administrative office and sales forces. Through the BOARD, you have access to all historical sales data and to all historical statistics. It is used in the analysis and budget insertion phase as well as in the analysis of purchases. another important area of use is market analysis and management control.
  • Simplicity of use
  • Execution speed
  • Scalability on the query function
  • Web interface
  • Client interface
  • Improve graphic creation
In my opinion there are no limitations on usage scenarios. I find it very elastic both in the reporting phase and in the data entry and analysis phase.

It is an all in one solution. Other products did not allow writeback capabilities. Many had add on products that were required.

Consider cost of ownership. The cost to run most products eclipses the initial cost to implement with previous products
