USM Appliance (On-Premises)

Overall Satisfaction with AlienVault USM

AlienVault is our primary log management server, we have an on-premises USM and a cloud sensor. These collate logs from both our on-premises environment and cloud back to the USM for management. This application is only used by one team.
  • Internal vulnerability scans built in.
  • Email alarms and trigger events.
  • Custom emails.
  • Make the on-premises [deployement] have the ability to link with AWS.
  • AlienVault Anywhere should be lower priced.
  • Ability to save searches.
  • Make it easier to drill down logs.
We choose AlienVault as they came across as strong, good priced and could work with AWS. We then used the software and found out it doesn't.
In the beginning we were told that AlienVault would work with our AWS environment and help us with all our requirements. This was not the case and it does not work with AWS at all. we are having to hack together an environment our self as we were miss sold this software.

AlienVault USM Implementation

The system is not very straight forward to setup, not many instructions. If your not very technical in IT then you will face huge issues. AlienVault should implement a easy install process. Alot of the tasks are manual for example to update packages you need to run commands, we then created our own cron jobs to do simple things that they haven't wrote yet.
