Overall Satisfaction with Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT

We use Blackbaud FENXT to manage our general ledger, keep track of our payments through Accounts Payable, and enter deposits through Cash Receipts. The GL reports are clear and include all the necessary data making it easy for department managers to monitor their budgets. We also use the module for bank reconciliations which used to be a manual process done in Excel.

  • I was hoping we would be able to create Queries as we have that functionality in Database View.
  • The online bank feed and reconciliation process done in the Treasury module can be very buggy where I'm not able to see all the transactions in a given range.
  • We use Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT for the general ledger and accounts payable functions, and we also use Blackbaud Education Management for student billing. However, these two systems are not connected, and the information for student accounts must be transferred into FENXT manually.
  • I feel that the system in Database View is more user-friendly than the online Web View.
  • In hindsight, I wish we had spent more time discussing our chart of accounts when we first implemented the system. Due to the complex nature, we had to go through a re-implementation of the system because it wasn't done the first time accurately.
  • Blackbaud has partnered with smart tuition, and the 2 systems conveniently connect, so the data is transferred with the push of a button. I am a fan of Blackbaud, but I am NOT a fan of smart tuition. I prefer to use a different tuition management system with Blackbaud.

  • Customized reports have given me more time to review and investigate issues rather than format data.
  • Having access to the security settings allows me to immediately resolve all minor issues that users are having. (In our old system, we always had to contact the ERP tech support.)
  • Overall I've been more efficient with my time because Blackbaud FENXT has allowed me to complete my routine day-to-day processes quickly and accurately.
In comparison to Veracross, Blackbaud FENXT is much more user-friendly. I used Veracross 4-5 years ago, and the student billing/accounts receivable functionality was the absolute worst. It wasn't customizable, and it seemed that I ran into an issue every day and had to contact tech support to resolve it, and the issues would take days to resolve which would further delay my work. I used the Blackbaud student billing system in my previous organization, and it was much easier to customize and control. In the times that I've contacted Blackbaud support, they have always responded in a quick and efficient manner.

This is a great system for monitoring general ledger activity and accounts payable processing. It has the ability to run various reports customized to your needs, and it is very user-friendly. There are a few limitations: I hoped that I would be able to build queries as I find that functionality extremely useful, and I look forward to the day when the Education Management grad student accounts system will connect to the general ledger so we can avoid the manual transfer of data. Also, Blackbaud connects with smart tuition for K-12 tuition management, but I prefer other systems over smart tuition. I would only use smart tuition as a last resort as it has several frustrating limitations. Even with these minor issues, I feel that Blackbaud is the best ERP system out there for our accounting needs.
