Overall Satisfaction with Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT

Staff and I use it mostly for general ledger and project reporting. We prefer to use the Database View (Citrix) because that is what we learned and are experienced with. A big problem for us is that NXT does not support Accounts Receivable which is a very important part of our business. Blackbaud has announced that they will take away our Database View at some time in the future, so I have been trying to use NXT more in order to learn it. In doing this, I've learned that some basic bank account functionality is not available on NXT--things like pre-reconciliation reports. The Database View has to be used for this ability. I prefer the general ledger and project reporting over Database View. It just seems easier to build and process the reports and their outputs.

The company had severe reporting problems when I joined it. Rapid turnover in the CFO position harmed the accounting function and audits were in arrears. FE training was rushed, but the company signed off on it anyway. Staff kept at it, though, and has gained a good working relationship with the software. FE provided a framework to force consistency (more or less). The structure allowed staff to build routine in processes. Data for audits is produced quickly and to the satisfaction of our independent auditors. Blackbaud really upset the cart when it dropped payroll accounting. This had the company scrambling to find an alternative, and the alternative we found has not been completely satisfactory. Blackbaud has a habit of dictating substantial changes on its customers. Its customer service, though, has always been very helpful. This is more about FE and Blackbaud than NXT in particular, but NXT is the interface to FE.
We can produce useful reports, but time constraints caused by short-staffing keeps us from being timely. This isn't an NXT problem.
I was not present during the accounting software selection process. Staff tells me they preferred another package, but the executive director made the choice for them.

It's accounting software, so.... We definitely can't manage our A/R or bank reconciliations with it in its present state.

3 - Three people feed NXT data. Not sure what is intended by "support." The company has no IT staff.

BB seems to forcing changes on customers at a faster rate. This company needs stability because it is understaffed in accounting. There isn't time to drop everything and work up workarounds or even try to judge effects. There also isn't the time to find a replacement suite unless things get really bad.

Customer service people are very helpful and courteous. Probably the high point of the FE experience.
